  • Before you begin entering extinguishers and equipment into Firebug, it is best to think about how your locations are laid out. By carefully planning you locations you will find it easier to build inspection routes and sort reports.
  • Before we begin a few definitions a f e w d e f i n i t i o n s. Firebug includes a 3 level location structure. The highest level is the site. The next level is the building. A building can be defined a number of ways for different situations but a short definition is that a Building is a group of individual locations collected to make it easier to organize routes and reports later. In the following slides, we will see a number of different building descriptions. The Location is the key field. It is best to put a unique barcode label at a location. The Location is defined as the exact place where the safety equipment to be inspected resides.
  • Here is an diagram of a common site, building and location structure. The Site here is ABC University The buildings are Administration, the Library and the Gym. Within each of these buildings are individual locations. Let’s look at the Library. L00004 is the location barcode and this extinguisher is in the reference area. L00005 is another barcode identifier and this represents Room 101.
  • Here is another example of how the site, building and locations can be laid out. The Site is a high rise building and in order to make inspection routes manageable, we have segmented out every 10 floors as a Building. This way we can have 3 separate routes, one for every 10 floors. When you get to building an inspection route, you will see the benefit of doing this. I am only showing 3 locations per building but this is only an example
  • One thing to note is that every Firebug installation must have a site and building recorded. In this example, Acme Anvil Company is the site and there is only one building, which is names Acme Anvil HQ. For smaller installations, this is usually the best structure.
  • Now let’s go over how to add sites. In the Maintenance drop down menu, choose Site Here you would fill in the Site ID and Description. Usually there is only one site per Firebug installation but for larger customers there could be more than one.
  • Here is an example of a building in Firebug. Notice ABC Administration building is within the site ABC. You must add address information for each building
  • Here is an example of a location in Firebug. L00001 is the location barcode label. “Admin Lobby” is the description that you will see on the hand held device. Try to keep this within 13 characters to make it readable on the hand held device Note that this location is within the site ABC and the building is ABC Administration Building. The best way, however to add locations is with the portable terminal.
