  2. 2. ROBITUSSIN<br />DEFINITION:<br />Generic name is guaifensen. Guaifensin is an expectorant. It helps loosen congestion inyour chest and throat, making it easier to cough out through your mouth.<br />WARNINIG SIGNS:<br />You should not use this medicine if you are allergic to guaifensen.<br />Use this medication exactly as directed on the label, or as prescribed by your doctor.<br />Do not give this medication to a child younger than 4 yrs. old <br />
  3. 3. SIDE EFFECTS:<br />Dizziness or headache<br />Rash; or<br />Nausea, vomiting, or stomach upset. <br />

BENADRYL<br />DEFINITION:<br />Generic name is diphenhydramine.<br />Diphenhydramine is an antihistamine that blocks the effect of the naturally occurring chemical hitamine in the body.<br />WARNING SIGNS:<br />Do not take diphenhydramine if you have taken a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) such as isocarboxazid (Marplan)<br />Phenelzine (Nardil).<br />Or tranylcypromine (parnote) inthe kast 14 days.<br />
  5. 5. SIDE EFFECTS:<br />Sleepiness, fatigue, or dizziness<br />Headache<br />Dry mouth; or<br />Difficulty urinating or an enlarged prostate.<br />

MUCINEX<br />DEFINITION:<br />Generic name guaifenesin (oral route).<br />Guaifenesin is used to help clear mucus or phlegm (pronouced flem) from the chest when you have congestion from a cold or flu.<br />WARNING SIGNS:<br />Do not give any over-the-counter cough and cold medicine to a baby or child under 4yrs of age using these medicines in very young children might causes serious or possibly life threatening side effects. <br />
