  1. 1. Moving to the Cloud Eric Blassin
  2. 2. Moving to the cloud - Challenges • Architecture • Generally re-architecture or even build from scratch necessary for full benefit • Performance and service levels • Complexity in maintaining service levels • (Near) Real-time apps on public clouds can be challenging • Countries with lower local infrastructure performance • Meeting specific security requirements can be difficult • Especially around Data location, local regulations, growing political tensions/mistrust, specific verticals sentivity • Risk management is even more critical because of concentration • Security, availability etc. • Often best approach is hybrid (private/public/on premises) making it even more complex • For instance, authentication, ID mgt and federations etc..
  3. 3. Moving to the cloud - Opportunities • Most economical value • Better sharing of resources, lower cost of deployments, etc. • Best architecture for leveraging the value of agile development I enterprise apps • Continuous development, continuous deployment • Easier to scale if properly architected, virtually unlimited resources • Low barrier of entry with use of public clouds, no capex investments, no IT, etc. • Can greatly simplify integrations and connectivity (Cloud to Cloud, open APIs) • Unleash value of the scale • Standardization • Centralization, consolidation • Boost sharing • Big data
  4. 4. Moving to the cloud – Pitfalls • Architecture and performance • Scalable cloud doesn’t mean applications scale • Reliability: Higher concentration means higher risks • Necessity of strong infrastructure, DR, Business Continuity plans, Security etc. • Location of data and data flows not always clear (security, data privacy, regulation compliance etc.)
  5. 5. Translation Technology solve real business problems • Continuous, Agile, and Immediacy are the new norm • Agile development & Continuous publishing -> Agile and Continuous localization • Content is moving to platforms • Translation is a major hurdle in global conversations and processes • Sentiment analysis, market research, surveys, Social media monitoring etc. • Content and user generated content is growing • Continuous economical pressure increase • More languages, adding transaction complexity • Growing importance of time to market in some verticals Could we really do without technology ??
