Introduction
• An Electric Vehicle, technically is an Electric Drive
Vehicle.
• uses one or more traction motors for propulsion.
• An electric vehicle is powered by electricity.
• Electric Vehicles are used as Electric Trains, Electric Cars
and Electric Bikes.

History of Electric Vehicle
• The history of Electric Vehicle began in Mid 19th century.
• 1832: Robert Anderson invents a non-rechargeable
electric carriage.
• 1835: Thomas Davenport builds the first practical electric
vehicle.
• 1976: General Electricity was chosen to construct a
parallel-hybrid sedan, and Toyota built its first hybrid car.

Features of Electric Vehicles
• Gas is a scarce, natural resource, Electricity is cheaper
than gas. Electricity can come from renewable resources
such as solar and wind power.
• Electric cars pollute less than gas-powered cars,
• Electric cars are much more reliable and require less
maintenance than gas-powered cars.
• Produce 27 per cent less C02 than petrol cars and help to
reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Charger
• It contains a plug that connects electric vehicle batteries
to an electrical source, providing the batteries with
electrical energy.

Batteries
• Most electric vehicles use lithium ion batteries. Lithium ion
batteries have higher energy density, longer life span and
higher power density than most other practical batteries

Motor
• Three different types of electric motors can be used in
Electric Vehicles: the BLDC motor, Brushed DC motor,
and AC Induction motor.
• For electric trains, forklift trucks, and some electric cars,
DC motors are often used.
• In some cases, Universal motors are used, and then AC
or DC may be employed.

Manufacturers of Electric Vehicles

Advantages
• They are Eco Friendly as no Pollutants are released.
• They provide quiet and smooth operation.
• They are very Efficient compared to combustion Engine
type Vehicles.
• They can be finely controlled and provide high torque
from rest, unlike internal combustion engines, and do not
need multiple gears to match power curves.

Disadvantages
• Initial cost of such Vehicles is very High.
• Maintenance is High.
• They take more time to Charge.
• Short Driving Range and Speed
