Microsoft's flagship product, the Windows Operating Systems Its other desktop products, namely Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer, and Windows Media Player Microsoft was founded by Bill Gates and Paul Allen on April 4, 1975
  2. 2. ORGANISATION CULTURE Previous culture of Microsoft followed by Bill Gates was nothing but dictatorship According to him new employees should be hired in the company with the same mindset In his era, the employees didn’t have a platform to innovate But now under the leadership of Satya Nadella the organization culture of Microsoft has been simplified
  3. 3. DESCRIPTION OF CASE Culture of Microsoft The “Microsoft’s Way” is hiring those who share the same assumptions and values He likes them young and he is thinking to increase the hiring of employees from college to 80% “Recruiting the Best and Brightest”
  4. 4. Marketing Managers Boot Camp: a 3 week training camp Culture : a sustained competitive advantage by using small young and aggressive teams to get jobs done A vision of a computer in every home Microsoft considers flexibility as an important factor and responds quickly to change
  5. 5. PROBLEM IDENTIFICATION The two problems of this case are: Whether the technique of brainwashing employees is ethically correct ? Whether the company responds quickly to change because its values are flexible ?
  6. 6. ANALYSIS Problem 1 Brainwashing Employees View Hinders creativity Slack Ranking Increase in Attrition rate Organization View Increase in growth rate Building Brand Image 1994 1995 1996 1997 1998 9.3% 8.5% 7.5% 7.6% 6.9%
  7. 7. Problem 2 Flexibility Positives Negatives Able to maintain competitive edge over others Authoritarian leadership Employees dynamism and adaptivity Stubbornness to remain at top position Lewin’s Model Wastage of time No monotony Blur image of organization values and beliefs
  8. 8. Recommendation and Solution The change in business culture is necessary for Microsoft This ‘eat what you kill’ culture will not succeed Microsoft needs to take some visible changes which can provide their employees a platform to innovate They can apply Positive Model of Planned Change in their organization
  9. 9. cuRRent uPdateS Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has sent a massive manifesto to his employees that how they are really going to change Microsoft’s culture: Nadella explained, "We need places where we innovate and we need renewal is in the core. When I think of our challenge today ... the core priority is renewal of mainstream work [processes]. Let's take what we are good at and rethink it. That's not a side project. That is the very company itself."
  10. 10. concluSion In this case we have seen that Bill Gates always wanted to be ahead of everyone But now its position is at stake, so there is a need for a change in culture of Microsoft Microsoft market is changing now To stay on top , it must retool-redirect the combative , in-your- face culture
