  1. 1. PARTICIPATORY MULTI-HAZARD DISASTER RISK REDUCTION PROJECT in ARMENIA funded by DIPECHO and Oxfam GB 2010 – 2011
  2. 2. Principal objectiveTo increase resilience and reduce vulnerability of local communities and national institutions by supporting strategies that enable them to prepare for, mitigate and respond to natural disasters

  4. 4. Activities and resultsCOMMUNITY EMERGENCY GROUPS (CEG)composed from 15 volunteers are established inall project communitiesCEG is divided into subgroups:• rescuers• first aid providers• organizers
  5. 5. CEG members are trained on DRR and First Aid provisionTrainings are provided in close cooperation with ARCS and Regional Rescue Department
  6. 6. CEG are equipped with first aid kits, special equipment and clothing for rescuers
  7. 7. • Participatory hazard mapping andcommunity emergency plans are developedin 10 communities• Plans and maps are distributed among Regional Rescue Department Regional Government
  8. 8. • 60 teachers of project communities’schools are trained on DRR and First Aidprovision• Teachers provided trainings for about350 children of secondary school• Painting competition on DRR themes isconducted among 200 school children ofall project communities’ schools

  10. 10. First aid kits , fire stands , printing materials are provided to schools of 10 project communities before now
  11. 11. Small-scale low cost demonstrative mitigation projects are conducted in project communitiesCEGs participated in development of proposals for mitigation projects Local governments made contribution in all projects . After completion the projects are handed over to communities for further maintenance

In close cooperation with regional state rescue department and regional government the simulation event/rescue drills for CEGs is conducted in June, 2011Result:• CEG members demonstrated theobtained knowledge and skills as well ascooperation with the regional rescuedepartment in the cases of emergency

PROJECT SUPPORTING ACTIVITIES The database of project beneficiaries isdevelopedAfter completion of training on first aidprovision the additional training via SMS isconducted for beneficiaries In the framework of livelihood projectimplemented by Oxfam GB Armenia ourproject beneficiaries were provided SMS onforecast during March-May, 2011
