Religion <ul><li>Religion can be explained as a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, especially when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs. </li></ul>http:// www . bbc .co. uk / religion / religions /
  3. 3. Religion and choice… <ul><li>Why do we follow this religion but not </li></ul><ul><li>another one? </li></ul><ul><li>Is it the result of upbringing or </li></ul><ul><li>of our choice? </li></ul>
  4. 4. Religion and choice… <ul><li>Most of us have followed our religion since </li></ul><ul><li>we remember. It means that it was our </li></ul><ul><li>parents’ decision which was probably </li></ul><ul><li>connected with customs in our family. </li></ul>

For example when our dad </li></ul><ul><li>follows Islam, our mum follows Christianity </li></ul><ul><li>and they want to wait for the moment when </li></ul><ul><li>we become mature enough and able to choose. </li></ul>

Religious diversity – danger or freedom of choice? <ul><li>Why there are so many religions in the world? </li></ul><ul><li>It is one of the most popular questions. </li></ul><ul><li>- Firstly, everyone has another picture of the God. </li></ul><ul><li>- People live in different parts of the world, so they have </li></ul><ul><li>different customs and beliefs. </li></ul><ul><li>- Sometimes it is the result of the isolation and dispersion. </li></ul>

  8. 8. Choosing religion… <ul><li>There are so many kinds of religions. It is a difficult choice for young people who are looking for truth. What can make such a choice easier? Maybe: </li></ul><ul><li>a visit to a country where majority of people profess a different religion, </li></ul><ul><li>having a friend of another religious culture </li></ul><ul><li>or being married to a person who follows another </li></ul><ul><li>religion. </li></ul>
  9. 9. Expressing our beliefs… <ul><li>What does it mean to express our beliefs? </li></ul><ul><li>For most of us it is praying and celebrating </li></ul><ul><li>religious festivals. It can also mean </li></ul><ul><li>respecting and showing religious symbols. </li></ul>

  15. 15. Functions of religion <ul><li>Many years ago people, with the help of religion, were exploring the mysterious nature of the world. Nowdays religion gives us the sense of security. We do not feel lonely and we may believe in a perfect world after our death. </li></ul><ul><li>In our opinion everyone is looking for </li></ul><ul><li>differents things in his religion. </li></ul>

But in our </li></ul><ul><li>opinion it teaches us tolerance and lets us </li></ul><ul><li>meet a lot of interesting people. Nowdays </li></ul><ul><li>religious diversity is a symbol of liberty and </li></ul><ul><li>respect, it proves that we are able to create </li></ul><ul><li>a better world. </li></ul>
