BEP-BIM execution plan

• Building Information Modeling (BIM) is a process focused on the
development, use and transfer of a digital information model of a
building project to improve the design, construction and
operations of a project or portfolio of facilities.
• BEP is a plan defining the goals of implementing BIM technology
in a project. It describes how the constructed model will be
applied, explains the implementation processes and the ways of
information exchange. It also contains information on the entire
project infrastructure required for a successful BIM
implementation, i.e.: the technologies we will apply, the team
responsible for the implementation and the contracts to be
fulfilled. In short, BIM Execution Plan focuses on delivering value
by implementing BIM to the project.

Need for BEP
4
• All parties will clearly understand and communicate the strategic goals for implementing BIM on
the project
• Organizations will understand their roles and responsibilities in the implementation .
• The team will be able to design an execution process which is well suited for each team
member’s business practices and typical organizational workflows .
• The plan will outline additional resources, training, or other competencies necessary to
successfully implement BIM for the intended uses .
• The plan will provide a benchmark for describing the process to future participants who join the
project .
• The purchasing divisions will be able to define contract language to ensure that all project
participants fulfill their obligations .
• The baseline plan will provide a goal for measuring progress throughout the project.

BEP should include:
5
• Roles and responsibilities of each team
• Strategy planning of key deliverables
• Set key project milestones & their timeline
• Well planned logistics of collaborative processes (i.e. BIM Modeling)
• Project Information Plan (PIP)
• Task Information Delivery Plan (TIDP) identifying the delivery of each supplier’s information
• Master Information Delivery Plan (MIDP)
• Coordination schedule with roles and defined protocols
• Working Procedures
• BIM iterations management
• File naming conventions
• Construction tolerance expectations
• Data attribute requirement
• Approach to annotation, abbreviations, and symbols to avoid potential ambiguity
• Software to be employed
• Data transfer management (Data format, exchange tools, etc.)

Project definition:
• A Residential building -Residential building means a building in which sleeping
accommodation is provided for normal residential purposes, with or without cooking or
dining facilities, and includes one or more family dwellings, lodging or boarding houses, hostels,
dormitories, apartment houses, flats and private garages of such buildings

3. Project location and address : Mehdipatnam, Hyderabad
4. Contract type and delivery method :Cost plus fixed fee contract
5. Brief project description: a well planned 14 floor apartment to be
constructed at the apex of Mehdipatnam. This project calls for a
design of a simple public building with some complexity that
includes the complexity of site topography and vegetation, socio-
cultural events, and variety of strategies for sustainable design. It
explores design solutions that harness environmental qualities and
conditions for human and environment sustainability through a
project with a specific community of users

Benefits of BEP
18
• 1. Coherent and explicit communication - From the beginning of the project, to
manage their responsibilities, team members communicate with each other
coherently, and explicitly. Due to BEP any ambiguity or miscommunication is
instantly resolved.
• 2. Enhanced collaboration- BEP document makes the project team aware of the
collaboration structure on several phases of the project timeline and information
for collaboration. The real-time and smooth collaboration boosts the smooth and
fine execution of project tasks.
• 3. Transparency - BEP transparency makes all the stakeholders aware of each
other’s roles and responsibilities in the project. All the stakeholders can access
the BIM implementation data. Also, a transparent workflow reduces ambiguity in
the working environment and increases the potential to handle uncertain working
situations in a better way.
• 4. Project on-time and within Budget - A BEP designed focused on the project
benefits avoids time on scrutinizing the details. BEP brings clarity of roles and
responsibilities of the stakeholders, making the goal of the project very clear
among the team members. These details help in delivering the project on-time
and within budget.
