  2. 2. © 2013 Sivaleen Inc. All Rights Reserved. On June 27the June, 2013 all roads lead to the Houses of Parliament, Westminster, London. This was the venue for the UK South India Business Meet 2013 which was organised by British South India Chamber of Commerce (BSICC), with Sivaleen Inc as the delivery partner, at the Committee rooms of Houses of Parliament, Westminster, London. The event was meant to herald innovative avenues to foster stronger UK-South India bilateral trade relations. The attendees included government representatives from South Indian states, Members of House of Commons, representatives from UK companies and Indian companies who are interested in South India and businessmen from South India who are successful in UK. The event was chaired by Mr.Virendra Sharma MP who is the Chairperson of British South India Chamber of Commerce and was supported by UK Trade and Industry (UKTI). THE MEET PROGRAMME SUMMARY Mr.Virendra Sharma MP, the Chair of British South India Chamber of Commerce welcomed the delegates attending the business meet The event started with an overview of India UK relations by Mr.Gareth Roberts of Foreign and Commonwealth Office. Mr.Sadananda Nayak, Executive Director of Punjab National Bank ( International) Limited spoke about Banking with a Difference, especially for companies based in the UK. Mr.Steve O’Leary, Director of Infrastructure and Life Sciences at UK trade and investment outlined the opportunities in India. Mr Lakshminarayana, Chief Consultant for Andhra Pradesh Project Facilitators and Consultancy Services Limited and a member of the Hospitality Development and Promotions Board spoke about Business opportunities in Andhra Pradesh. Dr.Rajendra Kumar of UK Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce presented the Business opportunities in Tamil Nadu. Prof C.M.K Reddy of Apollo hospitals & Halsted surgical clinic presented the healthcare opportunities in Tamil Nadu. Ms. Deepa Sugathan of Silkroute Legal gave an extensive talk about legal aspects of business with India.

Mr.Alexi Levene, a British national who lives in Kerala and is MD of Innovation Experience Kerala spoke about Business opportunities in Kerala. Mr.Aurangzaib Chawala of Lanop accountants gave an overview about the accounting practice in the UK. Mr.K C Janardhan, Hon. Secretary of British Business Group - Bangalore illustrated opportunities in Karnataka. Dr Anand RaviKumar of UK Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce talked about opportunities in Pondicherry Six prominent people/ organisation from South India were honoured in the committee halls of the British Parliament by British South India Chamber of Commerce. Mr.K.Lakshminarayana, Chief Consultant, Andhra Pradesh Project Facilitators & Consultancy Services Ltd, was honoured with the Award for Excellence in Consultancy Services 2013. Ambica Darbar Bathi was awarded the Consumer product of the year 2013 for developing the herbal incense sticks. Asset Homes Pvt Ltd, Kerala was honoured with the Award for Excellence in Real Estate 2013. Prof C.M.K.Reddy, General & Vascular surgeon, Apollo hospitals & Halsted Surgical Clinic, was awarded with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Mr.Satish P Chandra, Chairman & Managing Director, Global Tech Park Private Limited, was awarded the Businessman of the year 2013. was honoured with innovative and user friendly portal in India. Mr.Maurice C.P Devakaram of Eva Builders, Chennai was given a Letter of Appreciation for promoting BSICC in Tamil Nadu The awards were presented by Mr.Gareth Roberts - Team Leader for India, Nepal and Bhutan, South Asia Department, Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Government of UK, The Right Honourable Stephen Timms MP - Shadow Minister of State for Employment, Ex-Financial Secretary to the Treasury & Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Government of UK and Mr.Virendra Sharma MP - Chair – British South India Chamber of Commerce & Indo British All Party Parliamentary Group. South Indian actor/director Prithviraj S was also present. The UK South India Business Meet 2013 was held following the successful hosting of the UK South India Business Meet 2012 at Houses of Parliament, London on 12th July, 2012.

The success of the Business meet 2013 has provided BSICC with renewed energy to work in the following areas.  Work with the British government and UK businesses to bring business and investments from South India to UK  Work with state governments and businesses in South India to bring Business and investments from U.K.  Arrange and liaison with UK companies to get their projects implemented and nurtured in South India.  Promote business, culture and cuisines between UK and India.  Attend to major problems faced by the immigrants from India who want to set up new businesses in UK.  Indo-UK Film industry Investment promotion society to explore the prospect of supporting film productions in India and UK.
