DIABETES
• Diabetes mellitus is Madhumeha
in Ayurveda.
• Madhumeha—Honey Urine.
• Madhumeha is a METABOLIC
DISORDER.
• Related to vitiated kapha dosha
and increased Medo dhatu
PREDISPOSING FACTORS
• Age groups- any age group, chances
increase with age.
• Sex- more Prone in women
• Hereditary
• Weight- excess weight in adult
• Inactivity
• Stress
CAUSATIVE FACTORS
• Asyasukham-sedentary habits
• Swapna sukham-excessive sleep
• Dadhini-eating curd in excess
• Gramyaudakanupa rasaah- meat
of domestic, aquatic and
marshyland animals

2) Predominant dosha of the disease
3) Dooshya – involved tissues
4) Obstruction in srothas
5) Manasika Prakrithi
6) Ahara & Vihara
7) Hereditary factors etc..
AHARA
• Regular, frequent and small quantities
• Rice or wheat- limited quantity
• More vegetables, greens, legumes
• Fruits – other than grapes, chikku,
seethafal, mango .
• Eat bitters- bitter gourd, cluster beans,
snake gourd, neem leaves, methi
VIHARA
Regular exercise -
• Lowers blood sugar levels during and after
exercise
• Increases sensitivity to insulin
• Strengthens heart and lungs
• Decreases bad cholesterol and increases
good cholesterol
• Reduces stress
AUSHADHAS
1) Snehanam –use of oils internally &
externally
2) Sodhanam -Purification therapy –
Vamanam or Virechanam or Basti
3) Samanam - to diminis or reduce to
dosha
