11. Having spent seven pleasant but rather
uneventful years working in a bank in Japan,
Hiroki Ishida wanted to make a change in his
life by working overseas. Carefully considering
the available options, he decided to get an
MBA and a job in China, Japan’s largest training
partner. Only after graduation did he realize
that his new degree could even open doors to
jobs far beyond Asia.
Today, he works in Kenya’s capital Nairobi
and manages Japan’s first African venture
development fund. For his communication,
negotiation and leadership skills to lead his
team, he credits the MBA courses and the
hands-on practice provided by studying in a
diverse class with people from many different
professional and cultural backgrounds. His
contributions at the Student Union also helped
him to put into practice what he had learned.
An Unexpected
Work Destination
To be honest, I did not expect to work
in Africa after finishing my MBA, as my
objective was to go to China. However,
I am really pleased to have accepted
this job offer, because I enjoy my job
and life with my wife here. Without the
CUHK MBA, it would have been difficult
to get such a special and exciting
opportunity.

Thomas Lesinski was bitten by the travel bug
at a young age. During his formative years, the
German national spent time in Australia and
Spain. At university, a short experience with a
Chinese consulting firm made him interested in
Asia, its multiple races and languages.
Following his passion for learning more about
foreign lands, he joined CUHK MBA and graduated
in 2009. He then returned to Germany to work for
Volkswagen and relocated to China in 2013.
Through the years, he noticed some interesting
Chinese business traits. Chinese people often
follow their instincts and an acute sense of the
market, dash forward to catch the opportunity,
and then solve problems during the process. This
puts them at an advantage when entering fast
growing markets.
Passion for
Learning
I’m convinced that an MBA can provide a person with
a strong base for rapid personal and professional
development as well as future career progress.
“ “
According to my experience in Asia, both local and
international companies are looking for experts
with extensive experience in specialized fields.
Other important qualities are to understand
different cultures and be open-minded toward
different behaviors and traditions.

Extended Learning Opportunities
In this special 10th anniversary edition, we have themed the Conference
with“CSR as our DNA”and invited distinguished leaders in the industry
as our honored speakers. The Conference focused on the possibility of
maximizing the current and future scope of CSR practices in Asia with
global perspective. We greeted over 300 attendees and exchanged the
latest CSR industry development and knowledge.
Today’s customers demand a more environmentally friendly
way of running businesses and job seekers tend to join
companies with high Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
standards. That is why CUHK MBA puts emphasis on developing
socially conscious leaders who want to give back to society.
The CSR Conference, every aspect of which is organized by the
students, creates a many-layered learning opportunity.
CUHK MBA has organized four HR Leaders
Forums in 2015/2016, two of which were
held in Singapore and two in Hong Kong.
The renowned event attracted senior HR
practitioners, guest speakers and CUHK
MBA students. The round table discussions
and sharing gave the students much food
