Contours And Its Uses

  1. 1.  CONTOUR-: An imaginary line on the ground surface joining the equal elevation is known as contour.
  2. 2.  Contour Map is used in order to select the most economical and suitable sites.
  3. 3.  It helps to locate the alignments of the canals so that it can follow a ridge line.
  4. 4.  It helps to mark the alignments of roads and railways so that the quantity of earthwork both in cutting and filling should be minimum.
  5. 5.  It helps for getting the information about the ground whether it is flat, undulating or mountainous.
  6. 6.  It helps to find the capacity of reservoir and volume of earthwork especially in mountainous region.
  7. 7.  It helps us to trace out the given grade of the particular route.
  8. 8.  It helps us to locate the physical features of the ground such as pond depression, steep or small slopes.
  9. 9.  So by this it is clear that the contouring and contour map plays a vital role in for any types of engineering work. So it is important for us to gain more knowledge in this field so as to serve in coming future.
