Government Industrial Project

  1. 1. The brief from our client in this case required the design and construction of a self contained, fire rated, acoustically appropriate, office unit for 4 people. The unit needed to be located on the production floor of an existing print production facility, where noiseand fire integrity were critical client concerns. The unit needed to accommodate the 4 staff with power, lighting, data, comms andindependant air conditioning. It was also imperative that the construction of the unit did not interfere with the company’s print operations. For security reasons late nights or a weekend fit-out were not practical options so all work needed to be undertaken duringproduction hours. As much of the print production equipment is very sensitive to dust it was also imperative that dust be kept to aminimum. The solution was a metal skin, insulated demountable partitioning system with an integrated steel structure which could support anintegrated fire rated ceiling as well as a ceiling mounted air conditioning unit. All components were manufactured off site to rigorousspecifications and assembled dry on location. The unit was constructed to meet a 1 Hour fire rating and acoustics were dampenedwith the integral insulation in the walls and a custom acoustic ceiling frame. Internally the unit was fitted out with a metal raisedaccess floor system with power, data and comms located in floor boxes and a suspended ceiling with recessed lighting. The floor wasfinished with carpet tiles and the metal wall skin was epoxy painted in an agreed RAL colour. The unit is fully demountable and independent of the fabric of the building (except for a small number of easily removable floorbolts). It is designed to be relocated with ease and minimum loss of components.
