  14. 14. Q. What would you say sets Twenty Lombard Street apart from any other development in Toronto? A. You have to be ‘in the know’. When you look at most big buildings in Toronto, especially the downtown core, they’re usually located on a major street and the lobbies open on a major street. This is not the case with Twenty Lombard. You have to be in the know so-to-speak. The entrance is not on a major street. It’s tucked away. Its location speaks of a certain type of luxury and exclusivity. While you’re right downtown, you’re not worried about the noise and traffic outside your front door. You’re surrounded by calm and quiet. That’s unique…very European. And it’s certainly not the norm in Toronto. Q. What will residents find at Twenty Lombard Street that they won’t find anywhere else? A. Where do I begin? Privacy. A Refuge. Boutique Living. First and foremost, it literally offers residents a private park in the sky – not just a landscaped rooftop deck. I believe it will surpass any rooftop space in any hotel in the city. It all starts on the 34th floor. Floor to ceiling windows expand the space to the outdoors – its seamless indoor- outdoor living. Huge, deep terraces give residents the freedom to set out their chaise lounges, patio sets, potted plants – it’s not a balcony, it’s a truly livable space. I also mentioned boutique living. The amenities are a big part of this but the finishes, the materials…we’ve tried to make everything look as custom as possible. The kitchen is a great example. We’ve hidden the appliances behind millwork so that while it’s in plain sight, it’s also kind of hidden which in the end, expands the livable space. “Today’s buyer is so much more design aware. We’ve invested a lot of time in really thinking about the sequence of how they’ll live in the space so that they’ll want for nothing.” Diego Burdi B u r d i f i l e k • t w e n t y l o m b a r d s t r e e t • Q. With all of the buildings going up in the downtown core, what would you say makes Twenty Lombard Street so unique? A. It’s quiet. It’s in a ‘walking’ neighbourhood. The east side of downtown, Yonge and Richmond, has truly become one of the most desirable neighbourhoods. It’s interesting. It’s one of Toronto’s oldest neighbourhoods so residents have a unique blend of old and new right outside their front door. Sure you’re right downtown and there’s a buzz, but the buzz is different, sophisticated, again, quiet – it has more of a residential feel. Q. What do you think makes it so residential? A. You’ve got historical buildings next to universities, next to shopping, next to green spaces…lots and lots of parks for families and couples to enjoy. You can walk to a neighbourhood restaurant where you can get to know the owners or have a really great cup of coffee – it’s not about big chain eateries…you might find those as well, but they’re not as prevalent. It’s a place where you’re actually part of the culture of the neighbourhood. We wanted the architecture to not only reflect this, but to respect this and make it easy for residents to live their lives. Q. What would you say is one of the most important amenities at Twenty Lombard Street? A. The outdoor amenities – the indoor amenities too, but really the ones outside. We have such a short outdoor season so we wanted to make sure that we could offer residents something they could really enjoy, something unexpected. You’ll notice that we paid particular attention to the layout of the space. The positioning of the outdoor pool, lounges and cabanas – you know you’re outside and exposed but there is still a tremendous amount of privacy. You almost feel like you’re in your very own private resort – that was deliberate.
