Session design is evolving and by mixing methodologies with technology, this can a real plus for your event and for your attendees experience.

Audience participation is becoming a crucial component of meetings and the use of iPads has increased this significantly.

This are the slides of the session presented in Frankfurt at IMEX 2013 where participants experienced some of the apps that allow event audiences to feel more involved, to share their opinion and to contribute more effectively.

Asynchronous  presentaons    Stefania Conti-Vecchi – IMEX 2013Presenta/on   doesn’t   necessarily   need   to   end   when   the  presenta/on  has  finished.        There  are  apps  that  allow  to  have  asynchronous  presenta/ons  or  to  see  and  comment  content  before-­‐during  and  aDer  the  event.

  10. 10. Stefania Conti-Vecchi – IMEX 20134  generaons  of  iPads  There  are  4  genera/ons  of  iPads,  the  biggest  differences  are  about  the  projecon  and  the  camera  that  is  not  included  in  the  1  genera/on  and  the  cable  connec/on  in  the  iPad  4.

Some  ps  Stefania Conti-Vecchi – IMEX 2013Have  always  ready  you  plan  B  with  all  the  cables  and  adaptors   needed   in   case   the   WiFi   doesn’t   work  properly.    Ask   speakers   to   close   down   all   non-­‐essen/al  applica/ons   on   their   iPad   before   beginning   their  presenta/on   and   to   turn   on   the   "do   not   disturb"  mode!

Stefania Conti-Vecchi – IMEX 2013Methodology:    Before  the  session.      Speaker:    prepare  your  slides  with  PowerPoint  or  Keynote  and  convert  the  file  in  a  PDF.    Then  upload  it  to  the  app  (LilyPad  or  another  one)      Create   a   mee/ng   (you   will   share   the   ID   or   the   link   with   your  par/cipants)  and  make  all  the  Polls  you  think  you  may  need  during  the  session.

Stefania Conti-Vecchi – IMEX 2013Methodology  Parcipants:      Send   them   or   share   on   your   website/social   media   clear   instruc/on  asking   those   par/cipants   who   are   going   to   bring   their   own   iPads   to  download  the  apps.      Give  them  a  contact  person  to  be  helped  in  case  of  tech  issue  and  be  sure  to  tell  them  to  do  it  when  they  are  connected  to  a  Wi-­‐Fi  (possibly  send  them  a  direct  link  to  the  right  app  in  the  Appstore)

Stefania Conti-Vecchi – IMEX 2013During  the  session    Create  groups  of  6  max  8  persons    Take  /me  to  explain  how  to  use  the  apps  and  what  do  you  expect  from  par/cipants.  If  you  have  /me  organize  a  simula/on.    You  might  be  sure  they  really  understand  how  to  use  it.  This  helps  also  to  break  the  ice  at  the  beginning  of  the  mee/ng.      Each  group  will  be  given  a  specific  point  to  discuss.    They  can  record  their  own  comments  or  interview  their  peers  at  the  same  table.

Stefania Conti-Vecchi – IMEX 2013During  the  session    The  session  might  be  scheduled  in  modules  with  the  /me  previously  defined  to   give   par/cipants   the   chance   to   discuss   and   to   record   the   results   and  share  them  with  the  other  par/cipants  Easy  Timer  Easy   /mer   is   a   simple   /mer   applica/on   which   displays  remaining   me   widely.   Especially   the   remaining   minutes   fills  the  en/re  screen.

Some  ps  Stefania Conti-Vecchi – IMEX 2013Don’t  do  it  too  technical,  use  some  physical  techniques  to  keep  people  awake  and  engaged  (ex.  body  vo/ng).      Use   more   varied   exercises   and  ac/vi/es   to   remix   and   recombine  par/cipants  and  their  thinking.    Help  them  to  help  each  other!
