57 Photographer Research - Portrait

  1. 1. Born in 1958, EnglandStudied at Bournemouth and Poolecollege of art and designFirst photography book published in1982Also a Music video DirectorControversial and Avant-garde StyleProlific Fashion PhotographerRuns Professional multimediacompanySHOWSTUDIO
  2. 2. The photograph is a silhouette of awoman with her hair up andjumping on a plain whitebackground. In the Woman’sSilhouette here is a mixture ofimage and colour of a statue in amuseum. There are also otherimages incorporated into thesilhouette but are unclear otherthan an arm wrapped aroundsomething. The red and parts ofblack are in the perfect position ofthe clothes of the woman creating asort of dress look.
  3. 3. The woman is placed mostly to thecenter of the image, when shootingmodels on a plain white background itis often customary to have themplaced centrally to make sure thefocus is on them (not that there’smuch else to focus on anyway) theimages inside the womans silhouetteare placed at a low angle looking up
  4. 4. Using a fast shutter speed with a highiso setting and proper lighting createsthis sharp, mid jump image. With aslower shutter speed the image wouldhave been blurry and not as sharp. Theiso and proper lighting helps to definesmall features and details such as thefingers and hair and loose bits of thecoat. Nick Knights style is unusual andvery striking. He is a much sought afterphotographer for glossy magazines ashis sense of creativity creates a muchmore interesting piece than a modelsat alone in a white room doing acliché pose
  5. 5. The picture is very sharp andgood quality and the imagesinside the silhouette are placedperfectly for the best possibleeffect. The red highlights thefashion and the museum ceilingand statue work well as acentral image. The other imagehowever is sort of blurredleaving only a faintly clearimage of an arm wrappedaround the statue if this wasperhaps clearer it may lookbetter.
  6. 6. Born in 1965, AmericaFather was also fashionphotographerUnusual plain aesthetic tophotographsOften puts himself inpictures with models
  7. 7. The photograph is of lady gaga withtightly slicked back hair wearingonly a white T-Shirt with the wordsupreme printed on it. In this photo-shoot there are many images ofgaga wearing only a shirt or shoesbut covered very carefully. The T-shirt is stretched under and held inplace between her legs so as not toexpose herself.
  8. 8. Lady gaga is place central to theimage but the image is semi close-up showing only her thighs andupper body. In Typical Richardsonstyle the background is pure whiteand crisp. This use if a plainbackground and boring pose (formost celebrities he shoots) Couldbe a point on how they are justnormal people like the rest of us.
  9. 9. Intensive lighting has been used onthis particular picture with strongbacklights and flash. Thebrightness has also most likelybeen edited on Photoshop to makethe image crisper. RichardsonsStyle involves placing celebrities inmundane and Civilian poses andplain backgrounds. He is often inpictures with them showing that hetakes his photography lightly and asfun instead of serious hard work.
  10. 10. The image itself is quite clear andcrisp and the red colours are reallyemphasized and really stand outagainst the white purity. The imageitself may also be a bit too brightbut when contrasted with the whiteyou hardly notice at all
  11. 11. Born in 1963, AmericaCareer spans over director, fine art photographer, commercial photographer andmusic video directorOften called the Fellini ofphotographyBright and unusual pop artstyleWorked with Andy Warhol atage 17 on his first everphotoshoot
  12. 12. The picture is off AmandaLepore rubbing her teeth afterevidently snorting diamondswhilst wearing no clothes. Thepicture itself does not showdrug usage but it is implied bythe lines of diamonds and therolled up dollar bill. The imagein the mirror is not a reflectionas it is different.
  13. 13. Amanda is placed mostly centralto the image with thephotographer standing abovelooking down as to get the perfectperspective view of the mirrordiamonds and rolled up dollar. Thebackground is blue unlike thecliché white plain backgroundmaking it feel as though a realroom rather than a set up table inthe middle of nowhere.
  14. 14. As with other pictures from Davidlachapelle the complementarycolours of blue and orange/goldwork together well. Thephotographer is at a higher anglelooking slightly down to show thereflection of the mirror and themodels nipple just over the tableto add slight provocation. Thebright colours and unusual modelsare often a part of Davidlachepelle’s work
  15. 15. An original and striking imagewith bright colours and perfectsharpness. The angle could beslightly better to show more ofher arm perhaps
