THE NATIONAL LIBRARY OF FINLAND – Centre for Preservation and Digitisation How to awake interest? • platform makes using digital collections easier • As usable as possible • Benefit in the form of own scrapbook with personally collected clippings • Clippings also searchable by all users • Clippings can be shared with interest groups in other social medias • hope to invite new users by opening the service for f. ex. schools, researchers and interest groups

THE NATIONAL LIBRARY OF FINLAND – Centre for Preservation and Digitisation From earlier co-operation to Digitalkoot The National Library of Finland • Participated in game for text correction in 2011- 12 with the company Microtask • Already then the Library wanted to see if there was demand for crowdsourcing of clippings, like articles, pictures, advertisements from nespapers, journals and ephemera New project • The content of collections in fokus • Financing from European union social funds • ready in April, one of the first crowdsourcing moduls in the world for article clipping 14.1.1890 Uusi Suometar

THE NATIONAL LIBRARY OF FINLAND – Centre for Preservation and Digitisation Users I enquiry in the Historical Newspaper Library 231 answers of which 20 not earlier used the Newspaper Library The typical user used the material often, 1-7 times per week Positive: 22 of the answerers shared already our via social media Users age profile is relatively high, but despite of it 160 users were linked to several social media and only 78 did not use socia media

This is transformed to same int METS format that we use. • This newspapers i available at the Library and the other 6 deposit libraries in Finland.
