2. Special Outreach Parish Breakfast focusing on Alzheimer’s – May 4th The
outreach committee invites you to a special parish breakfast on May 4th at 9:00am. Our
speaker is George Torys from the Alzheimer’s Society, who will be raising awareness
about this disease. Alzheimer’s has touched many lives so if you know anyone who is
a caregiver or wants to learn more about this disease, please invite them to this
breakfast. This is the first initiative in our partnership with the Alzheimer’s society.
Donations to Outreach – at our February Vestry the people of St. Nicholas made a
wonderful commitment to support our Parish Outreach ministry which includes
supporting the Churches by the Bluffs Foodbank and a weekly Inter-Faith Lunch
Program. Direct donations to Outreach may be made using the blue envelopes at the
back of the Church or through pre-authorized giving. Thank you to all those who are
supporting this ministry, your response has been very encouraging.
The Bus Trips are fully booked, but if you are still interested in going, let Joan Alkerton
know, and your name will be placed on a waiting list.
Keep the Date - Saturday April 27 Dinner and Games night.. Tickets are $20.00
each and available from Reg McRae and Bill Alkerton. Please come and support the
church at this fun fundraising event. There is also a sign up sheet on the Manderley
bulletin board for desserts.
There is a Bursary available from York Scarborough Area Council for those entering
first year of post secondary education. The deadline for submission is May 15, 2013.
Speak with Rev. Janet for more information.
Found! We have acquired some assorted eye glasses, a jacket, odd earrings a
bracelet, and some old photo’s in a card that someone, maybe you, has lost. If you
think they might be yours please contact Janet in the parish office.
The St. Nick’s Knights softball season begins on May 7th. We play every Tuesday
night through May, June, July and August ending with an all-day tournament on
Saturday August 17th. If you are 13 or over (even way over!) you are invited to join the
team. There are no try-outs, everyone qualifies - great skill is not necessary, if you can
hit, catch and throw the ball, you’ll fit in just fine! Perhaps just as enjoyable as playing
on the team, is being a spectator. St. Nick’s Knights have the largest following of fans
of any team in the league, and what fun we have! If you don’t want to play, just come
out and cheer for our team. If you’d like to join the team, be in touch with the church
office.
We have received an invitation to the Episcopal Ordination of the Venerable Dr.
Michael Pollesel on Sunday May 26, at 10:30 am in the Holy Trinity Cathedral in
Montevideo, Uruguay. For those of us not travelling to Uruguay for the event, we’ll
include a special prayer for Michael in the prayers of the people on that day.
A little closer to home……The Ven. Peter Fenty, Archdeacon of York and the
executive officer to the Bishop of Toronto, was elected Suffragan Bishop in the
Diocese of Toronto on April 6. The service of consecration will take place June 22.
Kitchen Shower- What is that you say??!!
Our kitchen is in desperate need of new utensils, pots, oven mitts and knives (that
actually cut) etc, so……we are having a Kitchen Shower! A pictorial wish list has
been developed showing the items needed with their prices. Just choose which item
you would like to donate, fill out the corresponding envelope and enclose the listed
amount of money, (you can go together with someone). Members of the outreach
committee will do all of the shopping and the items will be purchased on your behalf.
The list will be posted at coffee hour today and until May 19th.
The Outreach Committee will be sponsoring a special coffee hour on the 26th of May
to thank everyone for their donations. At this time all the donated items will be on
display. If you have any questions please speak to Pauline Glasgow, Sonia Halloran
or Deb Chapman.
