“People like change; they just don‟t like being changed”!
In 2005/6 the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) embarked on a potentially
powerful journey….to transform the network of volunteer-led County Cricket
Boards into self-managed, professional organisations capable of developing &
delivering innovative local services based on the needs of local people.
So how do you focus mainly volunteer organisations on continual improvement?
And how can a policy & funding organisation like the ECB „improve‟ County
Boards, at the same time ensuring that these organisations own responsibility for
How do we ensure that this continual improvement leads to enhanced outcomes?
Most significantly, does the ECB (and the wider sport sector) have the capability
needed to make this type of change? If not what improvement is necessary?
7 years on, many actions have been taken & lessons learnt....
If we always do what we‟ve always done
we‟ll always get what we‟ve always got”!
