Analysis of student work

1. A second mid shot is
included, but this time at a
side view, this is good as is
allows the audience to see
the drummer who is situated
at the back of the stage.
The lighting for the location
is well designed, as it is not
too bright nor dim, and the
colors surrounding the band
lead to an authentic looking
performance.
The video starts with a
simplistic mid shot of the
band, displaying all 4
members. This is pretty
common for rock
conventions.

2. Next we are shown a close
up of the vocalist and then
each of the instruments that
the other members are
playing. In some cases, the
actual members will be
given close ups but this
depends on the bands style.
Each shot is very clear and
well focused which overall
makes the video look more
aesthetically pleasing.

3. This type of POV/close up
shot is impressive as it goes
against the common
conventions of a music
video, however it still fits
and is very innovative.
This simple mid shot is
combined with the use of a
low angle shot, a simple
adaptation of angle can
completely change the view
of a scene allowing for slight
more creativity to keep the
audience more entertained.

4. We are introduced to a new
character part way through
the video (0:40). The mid
shot is good and not too
much space has been left
surrounding him so the
focus on the character is
clear. As well as this, the
lighting is also very good.
This scene is interesting as
they combine both
performance and narrative
into the same shot. This
also is not something
conventional but it is very
creative and works well. The
only downside is the
narrative isn't very clear.
The video ends with the
performance becoming part
of the narrative when they
see the narrative character
watching their performance.
This still makes for a
creative video, and I feel the
creativity of the combination
overlooks the confusing way
in which the characters are
involved together.

5. Evaluation (www/EBi)
• WWW - The performance was very good as well as the connection of the narrative, there were a
good variety of shot types, including multiple camera movements. The lighting really stood
out and the effort of mise en scene could be seen due to the placement of props such as the
stage and backing lights.
• ebi - It would have been better if the narrative was clearer, however the concept is still good.
Lastly, syncing could have been checked for some of the drumming sections and a crash
symbol could have been used.
