Global Competency Defined: <ul><li>There is no “ONE” definition for global competency. </li></ul><ul><li>Our definition for global competency is :An ability to understand across traditional cultural linguistic, ethnic, and economic differences. This includes the richness of human diversity and knowledge that we are all inhabitants of the same planet, in which our individual worlds overlap. </li></ul>

Oxfam International <ul><li>13 organizations working together to find lasting solutions to poverty and justice </li></ul><ul><li>Part of a global movement for change. </li></ul><ul><li>Raises awareness on the causes of poverty and encourages people (like me and you) to take action. </li></ul><ul><li>Oxfam has campaigns for climate change, world AIDS, agriculture, health & education, as well as control arms. </li></ul>
  8. 8. Generation We <ul><li>The Millennial’s are a special generation. They are not pessimistic or vengeful. Rather, they are sober in their view of the world. They believe in technology and know they can innovate themselves out of the mess they are inheriting (Greenberg, 2008). </li></ul><ul><li>According to Eric Greenberg, the following Four Fundamental Rights should be a part of the Millennial agenda: </li></ul><ul><ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Right to health- an unspoiled environment, good nutrition, and affordable healthcare. </li></ul></ul></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Right to a good education. </li></ul></ul></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Right to clean, affordable energy </li></ul></ul></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Right to information, including computing power, and unfettered internet access (2008). </li></ul></ul></ul></ul></ul>
  9. 9. <ul><li>This website contains several organizations that have set up a Global online action which gives people around the world a chance to tell their government that they must keep their promise and meet The Millennium Development Goals. </li></ul><ul><li>According to White Band Action (2008) “In the year 2000 the governments of the world came together and agreed on eight goals to help end poverty.” The Millennium Development Goals that should be met by 2015 are as follows: </li></ul><ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger </li></ul></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Achieve universal primary education </li></ul></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Promote gender equality and empower women </li></ul></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Reduce child mortality </li></ul></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Improve maternal health </li></ul></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Combat HIV/AIDS, Malaria, and other diseases </li></ul></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Ensure Environmental Sustainability </li></ul></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Develop a global partnership for development </li></ul></ul></ul></ul>

They will only get worse” (Greenberg, 2008). </li></ul><ul><li>Some people today are living under the impression that their personal actions do not have a direct impact on what is going on in the world; Ideas similar to this is also known as “fallacy of the commons” </li></ul><ul><li>We have to comprehend the part we take in the impairment of this earth, understanding and knowing the modifications we can develop to sustain the planet for future generations. </li></ul><ul><li>What are you going to do? </li></ul><ul><li>Are you a Millennial? </li></ul><ul><li>Are you part of Generation We? </li></ul>
