Transportation of Water in Plants

  1. 1. Transportation of water inplants.Group members: Daniel,Sean Hew, Rachel Soh,Betheany Lim
  2. 2. How water istransported in plants. Water is transported to plant from the soil to root hair cell, Via OSMOSIS.
  3. 3. How water istransported in plants. The water is then transferred to the XYLEM because of ROOT PRESSURE.[As new water moves into the roots it causes the water to move up the plant.]
  4. 4. How water is transportedin plants. Itis because of CAPILLARY ACTION which causes liquid to rise from the stem against gravity.
  5. 5. How water is transported in  Xylem cells are DEADplants. AND HOLLOW. This allows RAPID WATER TRANSPORT.  They also have HARDENED CELL WALLS to resist tendency to collapse when water is sucked through them.
  6. 6. How water is transportedin plants. In some circumstances, drops of xylem sap EXUDATES on the tips or edges of leaves. [Exudates – ooze] This process is called GLUTTATION.
  7. 7. How water is transportedin plants. Gluttation occurs in some VASCULAR PLANTS such as grass.[Vascular Plants – Land plants with xylem]
  8. 8. How water is transportedin plants. The LONG-DISTANCE WATER MOLECLUES occurs first within the xylem cells of the roots. Then the xylem cells of the root. Then the xylem cells of the stem and branch.
  9. 9. How water is transportedin plants. And then into the xylem of a leaf midrib and vein. Driven by TRANSPIRATION[Leaf midrib – central part of the leaf]
