As an evangelist for work flexibility, Carol Cochran sees the benefits of flexible

Since joining the team at FlexJobs, Carol has helped to grow the company to a
team of more than 60 people, all working from home offices around the country.
She has great hands-on experience and knowledge in recruiting, managing,
and engaging a 100% virtual team.

Shaun Cawley - Panelist
Shaun focuses on providing HR support to Shopify’s fully distributed Support
Team. The Support team is Shopify's largest team and spans coast to coast
across Canada operating 24/7, and has also recently expanded into Ireland.
Shaun holds a Master's in Industrial Relations and has worked in various public
and private sector organizations prior to Shopify providing HR support to
distributed teams.

Mandy Ross - Moderator
Mandy recently moved into the role of Director of Social and Content
Marketing for Sococo, after serving as Director of Program Management
since 2012. Her past employers include Handspring, Palm, Apple, Sony and
Boeing.
A telecommuter since 2005, she lives for helping distributed teams establish
remote work best practices by connecting people to create thought leadership
in the virtual world.

  • 3. Introductions! Carol Cochran - Panelist As an evangelist for work flexibility, Carol Cochran sees the benefits of flexible work options for individuals, business, and society at large. Since joining the team at FlexJobs, Carol has helped to grow the company to a team of more than 60 people, all working from home offices around the country. She has great hands-on experience and knowledge in recruiting, managing, and engaging a 100% virtual team.
  • 4. Introductions! Shaun Cawley - Panelist Shaun focuses on providing HR support to Shopify’s fully distributed Support Team. The Support team is Shopify's largest team and spans coast to coast across Canada operating 24/7, and has also recently expanded into Ireland. Shaun holds a Master's in Industrial Relations and has worked in various public and private sector organizations prior to Shopify providing HR support to distributed teams.
  • 5. Introductions! Mandy Ross - Moderator Mandy recently moved into the role of Director of Social and Content Marketing for Sococo, after serving as Director of Program Management since 2012. Her past employers include Handspring, Palm, Apple, Sony and Boeing. A telecommuter since 2005, she lives for helping distributed teams establish remote work best practices by connecting people to create thought leadership in the virtual world.

  1. Hello everyone, thanks for joining us today. I’m Mandy Ross with Sococo, and I’ll be your moderator for today’s webinar, “Compensation and Distributed teams”. This is a first in a series of webinars focusing on best practices for distributed teams and we’re pleased to present this to you in partnership with our friends at FlexJobs and Shopify. A few technical items on the webinar front: note that all participants are muted by default. If you have any questions during the presentation please go ahead and type them into the Chat pane on the control panel and our trusty band of webinar elves will make sure that your question is handled when we get to the Q & A portion later on. Now, let’s move on to our agenda.
  2. We’ll kick our discussion off with quick introductions of our panelists and your faithful moderator. Next, we’ll go through a set of topics that was developed in conjunction with our friends at FlexJobs and Shopify. Once we’ve covered those areas, we’ll have roughly 20 minutes for Q & A.
  3. Kicking it off with introductions, I’m very pleased to introduce Carol Cochran of FlexJobs, which is a leader in remote work job referrals. Carol, joins us today from Dallas, Texas.
  4. Thanks Carol! And now I’m happy for you all to meet Shaun Cawley of Shopify, who joins us today from their offices Ottowa, Canada.
  5. I’m Mandy Ross and I’m the Director of Social and Content marketing here at Sococo and I join you today from Hood River, OR. I’ve been telecommuting since the olden days of 2005, when dinosaurs roamed the internet. My passion is to help establish best practices for those of us who work in the virtual world, which lines up perfectly with our partners at Shopify and FlexJobs.
  6. Now we’re going to get started on our pre-selected topics for today. Without further ado, let’s jump in.
  7. That brings us to the end of the pre-selected topics we prepared for today so let’s move on to the Q&A portion of today’s webinar. As I mentioned earlier, the webinar elves are going to usher your questions to us via the Citrix chat panel, so please use that to submit your questions.

  9. We’ve reached the top of the hour, The webinar elf union requires them to have a full hour lunch starting at noon pacific, so it’s time to wrap things up.
