  2. 2. Introduction<br />Dance-pop started in late 1970s and the early 1980s. Dance-pop has developed over time and now there is more music genres that are related to Dance-pop, for example: House, Drum&Bass, Dance-punk and many more. Dance-pop songs are often primarily created by record producers, who then select a singer to perform the song.<br />
  3. 3. Dance-Pop origins<br />Dance-pop came about from four genres of music, they were: <br /> -Pop music<br /> -Post-disco<br /> -Club music<br /> -Dance music<br /> -R&B<br />
  4. 4. Generic Features<br />Songs normally last between 3-4 minutes.<br />Normal played in clubs and bars.<br />Album art work is very much about the artist/band, with simple colour.<br />

Famous artists<br />Michael Jackson (1958-2009)<br />Michael Jackson, also known as MJ, was born August 29th 1958 and died just before his tour in England, on June 25th 2009. first began his career in the Jackson 5. Michael Jackson is one of the most popular icons in Dance-pop’s history.<br />
  6. 6. Famous artists<br />Beyonce (1981-present)<br />Beyonce was born on September 4th 1981, and her music career started in 1997. she is one of the most popular female artists of all time and is known as one of the “greats”.<br />
  7. 7. Famous artists<br />Katy Perry (1984-present) <br />Katy Perry was born on 25th October 1984, and started her singing career in 2001. Katy Perry is one of the newer dance-pop acts that has taken the world by storm.<br />
  8. 8. Instruments<br />The Typical instruments used in a typical dance-pop song are:<br /> -Drum machine<br /> -Keyboards<br /> -Synthesizers<br /> -Vocals (sometimes rapping)<br />
  9. 9. Instruments<br />Drum machine:<br />A drum machine is an electronic musical instrument designed to imitate the sound of drums or other percussion instruments. The sound is of the drums at work in Katy Perry’s song ‘firework’.<br />
  10. 10. Instruments<br />Keyboard:<br /> A side from the drum machine, the keyboards give some dance songs a unique sound. The best example of a keyboard being used in a dance song is Stevie Wonder- Superstition.<br />
  11. 11. Instruments<br />Synthesizers: is a electronic instrument, what is able to produce sound by generating electrical signals of different frequencies. These electrical signals are played though a loudspeaker. <br />Synthesizer can usually produce a wide range of sounds. <br />This is from Chris Brown-beautiful people, which has a drum synthesizer, to create the background sound.<br />
  12. 12. Instruments<br />Vocals: singing is the art of producing musical sounds with your voice. It is regular speech with the use of both tonality and rhythm.
