  1. 1. About this webinar Topic: What is Sigfox Monarch? Can SimpleHW devices work in different Sigfox RC zones? Who is this webinar insight for? Sales, technical pre-sales, support, SOs, integrators, IoT platforms. Technical level: intermediate Format: 40 mins presentation + 15 mins Q&A session Speaker: Pavel Sodomka, CEO at Simple Hardware
  2. 2. Important Articles Multizone devices - introducing Sigfox Monarch Monarch support in different versions of SimplePack 3.0 Plus WiFi Tracker
  3. 3. What is a radio zone ?
  4. 4. Sigfox Radio Zones
  5. 5.
  6. 6. Switching between different zones 1. The antenna needs to be able to transmit efficiently in the desired RC zones 2. Switching between the RC zones has to be supported 3. A trigger for RC zone switch has to be defined
  7. 7. Ways to switch the emitter Manual - through a switch/button, human action that’s not remote in general Time - the easiest one, if you know that the device is leaving a port you can tell the device to switch to another radio zone within 2 days GPS - if the device has a GPS module, you can program the device to switch the zones when it reaches a zone border World Time Code emitter - you can listen to it and switch the RCZ based on location WiFi beacons - if you have a predefined trajectory and are able to put managed WiFi beacons at transition points, you can use them to switch the zones Environment change - take-off/landing, port raising height during reloading Bluetooth/RFID beacons Monarch
  8. 8. What is Monarch Imagine it is a lighthouse Emitting the light every 5 minutes But only located in ports and airports - if you miss it the device can be lost The device needs to listen to the lighthouse and by detecting the pattern it can switch to proper zone Can it listen all the time ? Each unsuccessful 5 minutes listening takes approx. 40 messages of energy
  9. 9. When to listen to Monarch ? 1. If you know when it will arrive to port you can listen after a setup time 2. If you are able to physically detect the port, so after the detection 3. If you have precise timer you can try to listen at specified time slots 4. You can combine the methods
  10. 10. Physical options of port detecting ● GPS boundary/position ● barometric trigger landing/taking off of the airplane ● barometric trigger lifting by few metres and loading/unloading the containers ● accelerometer detecting the taking off and landing of the airplane ● WiFi/Atlas positioning (if you know the journey of the device you can trigger the Monarch listening by downlink at the proper moment)

  13. 13. Is Monarch usable ? Yes. But. Is it really “It just work. It just happens.” ??? Monarch is NOT an automatic worldwide system and needs complete Discovery and a very use case specific approach.
