  2. 2. <ul><li>David </li></ul><ul><li>Handsome </li></ul><ul><li>He has 7 brothers </li></ul><ul><li>He lives with his family in Bethlehem </li></ul><ul><li>Young shepherd </li></ul><ul><li>His father’s name is Jesse His brave and killed lions and bears that attacked his flock </li></ul><ul><li>Goliath </li></ul><ul><li>He was a soldiers </li></ul><ul><li>No records about his family. </li></ul><ul><li>He is a very tall man – “six cubits and a span.” Estimate to be 18 inches, that’s more than 9 feet tall, or about as tall as basketball hoop! </li></ul>
  3. 3. <ul><li>David </li></ul><ul><li>He played an instrument called lyre. He also played it to make Saul happy </li></ul><ul><li>By the time the battle took place He had worked for Saul, the king of Israel. </li></ul><ul><li>He is Saul’s armor bearer </li></ul><ul><li>Goliath </li></ul><ul><li>He was their (Philistine) champion </li></ul><ul><li>He was their best fighter </li></ul><ul><li>A servant carried a shield for his defense </li></ul>
  4. 4. <ul><li>David </li></ul><ul><li>He has been chosen by God to be the next king </li></ul><ul><li>He was anointed by Samuel </li></ul><ul><li>He will replace Saul but the only people that know this so far are David, his brothers and his brothers </li></ul><ul><li>Goliath </li></ul><ul><li>He is well trained </li></ul><ul><li>He was fierce </li></ul><ul><li>He worn a bronze helmet and very heavy protective mail, or armor, pounds </li></ul><ul><li>He had a huge javelin </li></ul><ul><li>The head of his spear weighed about 125 pound all by itself </li></ul>

The Formation <ul><li>David </li></ul><ul><li>He did not intended to fight in the Battle: His brothers – Eliab, Abinadab, and Shammah- went to battle to fight with the Israelites while David still went back to watch his father’s sheep </li></ul><ul><li>Goliath </li></ul><ul><li>He is fighting for the Philistine </li></ul><ul><li>The other Philistine are lined up behind Goliath on one side of the valley of Elah </li></ul>
  6. 6. Behind The Scene <ul><li>Meanwhile, David’s father, Jesse, was wondering what was happening in the battle. He asked David to take some grain and bread to his brothers, and some cheese to the commander of Israelite army. He asked David to bring back some kind of a token, or a souvenir, from his brothers, so that Jesse would know they were safe. </li></ul>
  7. 7. The Time <ul><li>There wasn’t much action in the battle yet. </li></ul><ul><li>Every day for forty days, the two armies each stayed on their own side of the valley </li></ul>
  8. 8. The Moved <ul><li>Every morning, Goliath would come forward and taunt the Israelites </li></ul><ul><li>He would say things like, “Come out and fight!” and “How can you really think you’ll win?” </li></ul>
  9. 9. The Moved <ul><li>He did come out again in the evening. </li></ul><ul><li>He did shout more insults, and the Israelites were very afraid. </li></ul>
  10. 10. What David says to Israelites? <ul><li>“ Let no one lose heart on account of this Philistine; your servant will go and fight him” 1 Samuel 17:32 </li></ul>
  11. 11. David’s and Saul’s Armor <ul><li>David put on Saul’s own armor. But it’s too big and heavy, and David wasn’t used to fighting in it. </li></ul>
  12. 12. David’s Weapons <ul><li>Slings and Stones </li></ul>
  13. 13. David’s Weapons ..”You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied” 1 Samuel 17:45
  14. 14. The Battle is The Lord <ul><li>All this assembly may know </li></ul><ul><li>That the Lord saves not with the sword and spear. For the battle is the Lord’s, and He will give you into our hand </li></ul><ul><li>1 Samuel 17:47 </li></ul>
  15. 15. God Won <ul><li>The Philistine were so frightened by the death of their champion that they ran away. The Israelites chased them. God won the battle and defeated the Israelites’s enemy </li></ul>

  17. 17. What was David’s weapon in the Battle against Goliath? <ul><li>The Name of The Lord </li></ul><ul><li>David trusted in the living God and knew that God would be triumphant against the enemies of Israel. He declared plainly, “ The Battle is the Lord’s!” </li></ul>
  18. 18. What was Goliath’s focus? <ul><li>His own strength; he also cursed the israelites by his false gods. </li></ul>
