With the rise of SaaS for all verticals of business, there is no shortage in the number of available ATS solutions for recruiters to choose from. The category is incredibly fragmented, with over 150 ATS products currently being tracked by Siftery. In addition to product fragmentation, there are many different different pricing models as well. Most ATS vendors use one of three pricing models: Per Employee, Per Seat, and Per Job Listing.

We analyzed the software stacks of more than three hundred thousand companies and identified Greenhouse, iCIMS, Jobvite, Lever, and Workable as some of the most popular products in the ATS category. In an effort to bring increased transparency to the pricing of ATS solutions, we anonymously collected pricing data from 293 companies who are currently using these products. Our findings are limited to the data collected from survey respondents.

  5. 5. The products included in this report operate using three different pricing models: Per Employee, Per Seat, and Per Job Listing. Benchmarks Per Employee: Greenhouse, Jobvite, Lever Other products not included in report: SmartRecruiters, BambooHR The majority of ATS products base their pricing on a company’s total number of employees. Companies of different sizes have very different needs and products on this model typically offer several bundles based on what features the company is looking for. This appears to be the only pricing model where vendors regularly include a minimum contract value, often making it a pricey choice for small companies. Per Seat: iCIMS Other products not included in report: Oracle Taleo, SuccessFactors Recruiting, RecruiterBox The ‘pay per seat’ pricing model typically appeals to larger enterprise companies whose high headcounts and many job listings make other models cost prohibitive. This model charges based on the number of recruiters and administrators who will be actively using the ATS platform. Per Job Listing: Workable Other products not included in report: JobScore, Breezy HR, Recruitee The ‘pay per job listing’ model is most often used by smaller companies that are unsure of what their future hiring needs will look like.   6. 6. Medium to large sized companies pay many times more than smaller sized companies which is expected given that the ‘pay per employee’ pricing model is the most popular across the industry. The average annual spend increases proportionately to company size and the average company is paying $13,000 annually for their ATS solution.   7. 7. iCIMS and Jobvite offer the most predictable pricing across company size while Workable has the best pricing for companies with 250 employees or less. Greenhouse is an expensive option for small companies, but becomes much more competitive in the 500+ employee range. Additionally, Lever has a cheaper offering for smaller companies and its price jumps significantly for larger companies.   8. 8. With the exception of Workable, none of the products in this report publicly list their pricing, leaving potential customers to contact the sales team to receive custom quotes.   9. 9. While onboarding fees were found in many older contracts, the industry standard is quickly shifting towards not charging customers for installation. Workable is the only product featured that has never charged onboarding fees. Greenhouse and Lever recently stopped charging these fees while iCIMS and Jobvite still charge these fees regularly. Overall, 19.8% of participants reported paying for onboarding, with iCIMS and Jobvite customers accounting for the majority of fees charged. Annual contracts are the standard contract length across products in the ATS space but many customers still opt for 2+ year and monthly contracts as well. iCIMS is most often used by companies looking to lock in long term contracts and pricing while Workable is most commonly used by companies looking for a short term recruiting solution. Analytics allows users to create custom reports and measure KPIs such as hiring speed, offer acceptance rate, and candidate satisfaction. Onboarding The vendors that offer onboarding as an add-on do so for a cost. Onboarding allows companies to personalize the onboarding experience for new employees while giving the HR and IT departments a bird's-eye view of new hire data. Engagement Similar to onboarding, all participants using engagement add-ons noted that they were charged by their vendor. Engagement add-ons help companies manage candidate relationships and engage with top prospects in their talent pool.
