MBA Managing Beyond Academics: Based on my observations here are some of the clues and pointers as to what and how students think about their teachers. The idea for doing this to check how well I know my students and connect with them at all levels

students think about their teachers. The idea for doing this to check how well I know my
students and connect with them at all levels
1. Most of the students treat HR class for practising – How to sleep with open eyes?
2. Average Students always feel that they can teach better than the teacher
3. Almost every student hates Case Studies and Class Presentations.
4. During Exam most of the students willingly demonstrate their TEAM WORK skills
5. To make the class presentation authentic whether required or not every students without
fail never forgets to add CHARTS and GRAPHS and even if they feel shortage on content
adding VIDEO is the best choice
6. It is funny to note that during group presentation when the group member who has not
done anything finds difficult in reading the content written on the slides and the other team
members give grim look (smile) to the rest of the class.
7. The nasty look given by the student presenting when the slide still appears that was
supposed to be deleted.
8. The BAD MOMENT when you are busy giving presentation and one of your friend is trying
HARD to make you LAUGH and finally he SUCCEEDS in doing so
9. For CLASS PRESENTAION the most important thing for all of us is
START – Welcome
NEXT SLIDE PLEASE and the moment of GLORY

10. Before teacher enters for the class presentation the presenting team lure the class with
samosa, cigarette for not asking any questions after the presentation and we call this CLASS
FIXING
11. Invariably I have noticed that one member of the group giving presentation is absent on the
presentation day.
12. While replying to any question asked by the teacher during the class students frame their
answers using phrases starting with....
BASICALLY..
TECHNICALLY..
FUNDAMENTALLLY..
PRIMARILY..
13. Students are desperate to get PARTICIPATION CERFIFICATE knowing that it is of NO USE.
14. Before Exam each and every student is terribly concerned in getting or arranging copy of the
syllabus.
15. We students consider INDUSTRIAL VISIT --- PICNIC and the most after sought destination is
GOA
16. JIT stands for Juggad In Time
17. During Examination it is very important for students to know the SEATING arrangement
instead of the course details
18. In every batch there is a guy who keeps forgetting to bring his laptop but never forgets his
USB and keep asking for others Laptop

2. 19. Senior students advice to Junior students – Copy the question asked and give examples and
examples and examples whether relevant or irrelevant
20. Just before placements during the process of resume drafting every students favourite
GOOGLE search is for ---- CORE COMPETENCIES and STRENGTHS & WEAKNESSES
21. When submitting SIP and FRP report it is common to find out NOT what is the TOPIC but
importantly HOW many PAGES are there in the REPORT
22. Teachers who love to boast about their achievements are the SOFT Target for the students.
They would encourage the teacher to showcase their achievement by showing terrible
interest to pass the time and guess what most of the time students are successful in doing
so.
23. Within 6 months of starting the course students divide the subjects into 2 categories:
a. Difficult subject that cannot be studied – MATHS / FINANCE...
b. Easy subjects that doesn’t need to be studied – ETHICS / HR/ MARKETING..
24. After completing the MBA course one skill that every student has mastered other then the
first benchers is – Typing messages without looking at the mobile screen.
25. Students find Teacher the best who reads from their slides and during the class they will
without fail request him to please put off the light as they cannot see anything so that they
can enjoy their power nap.
26. MBA students after 3 shots of tequila boasting their achievements – Boss doing MBA is not a
joke we have to study 500 slides before the exam
27. Interestingly students before opting for FINANCE as Major would pronounce it as PHINANCE
And the moment they opt for FINANCE as Major the pronunciation changes to FEENANCE
28. 100% students believe that their KEY LEARNING from the MBA course is – HOW to make
good PRESENTATIONS?
29. Every student entering late to the Institution is busy and lost in finding and framing new
excuses for being late and this is the reason that academic block is at a distance from the
main gate.
30. Students feel more at EASE after the class presentation than after the End trimester exams
31. My very Interesting BUT very close observation for my dear students and what goes in their
mind when they enact those looks to me when they are NOT PREPARED :
a. During PRESENTATION asking for NEXT SLIDE without shifting their face from the screen.
b. During VIVA pretend to be NERVOUS or it would be great to give ANXIOUS look
32. That weird look that class gives when while presenting you forgot to change the slide or the
matter you are presenting is NO where VISIBLE on the SLIDE.
33. The Best of the attention students give at the time of class ATTENDANCE
34. In our Project Report we only Type our name and rest all is CTRL C + CTRL V
35. Students loves the rainy season as they do not have to give any excuses for being late
36. When students of different Institution meet the first thing they inquire is – HOW IS THE
CROWD if a boy is asking it means HOW the GIRLS are and if a GIRL is asking then HOW are
the BOYS.
37. The worst case when students are informed that for GUEST LECTURE and SEMINAR there are
MARKS for ATTENDANCE
38. At the time GD & PI I have observed that most of the student love to use the phrase –
That’s a Very Good Point secondly they all AGREE very easily with each other
39. Students give their 100% attendance for VIVA and EXAMS

3. 40. The WORST MOMENT when TEAM PRESENATION is being DISECTED by the TEACHER in front
of the entire class.
41. The AWKWARD MOMENT when during PLACEMENT INTERVIEW the person asks about our
SUMMER INTERNSHIP
42. How the BEST STUDENT boast of before the EXAM – KUTCH NAHI PADH PAYA YAAR
And after the EXAM – KHALI COPY CHOD KAR AAYA HOON
43. The WORST HIT, when caught talking in the middle of the session and Teacher suddenly asks
what was the talk about and kept insisting to explain again and again.
44. Each class has some entertainers who would act like road breaker and would stop the
teacher in between by asking stupid question and keep arguing to entertain the entire class
45. When MBA student (Boy) updates his Face book status as PLACED it gets 5 likes(MAX) and 2
comments from friend asking – PARTY KAAB DEH RAAHA HAI or DARU KAAB PILA RAHA HAI.
When MBA student (Girl) updates her Face book status PLACED it gets more than 2K Likes
and 650 Comments
46. Few Teachers feel great to take extra classes always
47. Every Teacher in a B-School is GYAAN DEVTA whose hobby is to give GYAAN for free.
48. It is also funny that most of the teachers give examples of companies like DELL, APPLE and
TATA.
49. Teachers to get class attendance specially before exam will announce that tomorrow he/she
will be discussing the IMPORTANT Questions
50. Teachers when mad at some students would love to open 20 rounds of fire by asking funny
questions in the middle of their annoyance
So you want to become an MBA and if the answer to this question is mistakenly
given by the students simply by nodding his head or even if he remained silent , the
firing starts – Tell me what is India’s GDP?...... on and on and on....
51. No matter how tech savvy a teacher is, he would always need student assistance in putting
up the pen drive and ppt for the show
52. Teacher looking after placement Cell heavily invest his/her energy in drafting COVER LETTER
with intentions of hiding the shortcomings in student’s resume
53. Some teachers boast for having high standards of discipline in their class though in fact the
reason for the high standard of discipline is either students are sleeping or are busy sending
messages.
