  1. 1. MODES OF REPRODUCTION BY: MA’AM LOVE
  2. 2. WHAT IS REPRODUCTION?
  3. 3. REPRODUCTION- The ability of an organism to produce new individual. It is one of the characteristics that distinguishes living things to a non-living things.
  4. 4. 2 MODES OF REPRODUCTION 1. ASEXUAL REPRODUCTION 2. SEXUAL REPRODUCTION
  5. 5. 1.ASEXUAL REPRODUCTION- A single organism is the sole parent and the offspring is genetically identical to the parent.
  6. 6. 5 TYPES OF ASEXUAL REPRODUCTION 1. Vegetative Reproduction 2. Fission 3. Budding 4. Spore Formation 5. Regeneration
  7. 7. 1.VEGETATIVE REPRODUCTION- It occurs in plants in which a new plant grows from a fragment of the parent plant or a specialized reproductive structure.
  8. 8. 2. FISSION The cell divides to form two identical daughter cells. Each daughter cell continues to grow until it becomes as large as the parent cell.
  9. 9. 3. BUDDING a new individual may form as an outgrowth of the parent. The outgrowth separates from the parent and becomes a new individual.
  10. 10. 4. SPORE FORMATION It is found in a non flowering plants such as fungi and bacteria. The parent plant produces hundreds of tiny spores which can grow into a new plants.
  11. 11. 5. REGENERATION Animals can also reproduce by regeneration. For example is star fish, when the arm of the star fish is cut from the body, it can develop into a new individual.
  12. 12. 2. SEXUAL REPRODUCTION It is the mode of reproduction that involves two parents. Parents produce reproductive cells called gametes.
  13. 13. Gametes from the two parents unite in a process called fertilization. The fertilized cell is referred to as a zygote which develops into a new organism.
  14. 14. TRIVIA!!! HERMAPHRODITISM- HAVING SEXUAL ORGANS OF BOTH SSEXES.
  15. 15. 2 TYPES OF SEXUAL REPRODUCTION 1. CONJUGATION 2. POLLINATION
  16. 16. 1.CONJUGATION- It is the bacterial equivalent of sexual reproduction or mating since it involves two genetic materials.
  17. 17. 2. POLLINATION- It is the transfer of male part of a plant to a female part of a plant. It is carried most often by an animal or wind.
