While taking out the trash is a boring task for many people around the world, in Taiwan it’s actually fun.
In Taiwan, garbage trucks, like ice cream vans, are equipped with speakers that play music with popular tunes alerting citizens that trash time arrived. Besides, this system of garbage collection helps to foster an eco-friendly culture and a sense of community.

  12. 12. “杰克,來,這碗紅 豆湯是你媽媽在你這 年紀時最喜歡的甜 點。”外婆說。“我 要吃冰淇淋!”杰克 一邊說一邊將紅豆湯 推到旁邊。 “Jiékè, here, have a sweet red bean desert, your mother’s favorite when she was your age,” says Granma. “I want ice-cream!” cries Jack pushing the red bean bowl aside.
  13. 13. 這時,一段熟悉的旋 律從窗外傳入。“冰 淇淋車!”杰克大聲 地叫著,並從椅子上 跳下來跑到窗邊。 A familiar sound is heard outside the window. “The ice cream truck,” shouts Jack, jumps of the chair and rushes to the window.
  14. 14. “冰淇淋車在哪 裡?”杰克問。 “Where is the ice cream truck?” says Jack.
  15. 15. 當外婆打開門與媽媽 一起提著塑膠袋走吃 去時,杰克衝到外面 並且排到了第一個。 Granma opens the door; she and mother are holding plastic bags in their hands. In no time Jack rushes outside to be the first in line.
  16. 16. 他疑惑地望向四周並 詢問 “冰淇淋車在哪 裡?小朋友們在哪 裡?”。 “Where is the ice cream truck and where are all the kids?” asks Jack looking side to side.
  17. 17. 這時,杰克驚奇地問 道:“難道垃圾車就 是冰淇淋車?” “The ice-cream truck is a garbage truck?” asks Jack in wonder.
  18. 18. “這是一台會唱歌的 垃圾車,在這裡把垃 圾拿出來可是很有趣 的喔。”媽媽笑著告 訴他 ,鄰居也都笑了 起來。 “This is a Singing Garbage Truck and here taking out the trash is fun,” says mother and laugh together with all the neighbors.
