  2. 2. There are multiple ways to cut steel and determining the most appropriate method to a set type of steel can be difficult. Some are designed for thick steel; some can cut razor-thin steel with the perfect precision.

ANALYSE THE THICKNESS OF THE STEEL S T E P O N E Laser cutting is perfect for steel that is thinner than 0.080” Laser or plasma cutting is suitable for steel thinner than 0.125” Laser, plasma or waterjet methods will suit steel thinner than 0.250” Oxyfuel will cut anything over 8” with perfect precision Oxyfuel or waterjet cutting is adequate for steel thicker than 2”

  5. 5. COST ANALYSIS S T E P T H R E E Waterjet steel cutting is often the most expensive form of steel cutting and oxyfuel is usually the most cost-effective. Using multiple plasma torches can cost more, whereas waterjet cutting can run multiple nozzles from one intensifier pump, which means the quote cost is finalised prior to starting the job.
  6. 6. MULTI PROCESS METHODS O T H E R O P T I O N S Some complex steel cuts require multi-process methods of cutting. Plasma and waterjet cutting are often used together as are waterjet steel cutting coinciding with oxyfuel cutting. Multi-process cutting allows for accurate and slower precision for intricate contours and can achieve a quick, cost effective, and productive result.
