  7. 7. GENRE: Horror- zombie/vampire Running Time: 99 minutes Log Line: One year after a genetic virus turns most of the population into deadly vampire, the scientists responsible for creating the virus still search for a cure; meanwhile the Vampires close in, their own plans hinging on the scientists’ research. Synopsis: The year is 2012. The world has been torn apart by war. The United States is suffering greatly and has been under siege from several nations and seems to be crumbling apart. In an attempt to battle the disastrous homeland situation, a serum derived from the last remaining vial of Van Helsing’s blood has been developed to create a stronger military force. Sadly, it was unleashed on the populace before being fully tested. The results are worse than could have possibly been imagined. The effects are variable by genetics alone resulting in a widespread plague with no known cure. The blood is running; the beast - unleashed. The time is now, the end growing near. Tag Line: The Devils Apocalypse is coming… have you made peace with the one you worship? Page 7 of 27
  8. 8. Script Summary: In response to threats of impending war, an experimental serum is created from ancient genetic material for the purpose of creating super-soldiers, capable of great strength, agility and regeneration. What they created was far worse than anything they could have imagined. The Helsing Vial, a top secret vial holding the dormant genetic material of a race that was thought to be merely fiction of legend, was discovered in a hidden location. This vial became the catalyst to create a serum that would prove the undoing of mankind. When Doctor Bryce and her mentor, Professor Popovich, signed on to create the Drakul-Serum, they had no idea that it would propel the world into the end times. When an unwitting janitor, Donald, accidentally becomes exposed to the experimental serum and unknowingly spreads it throughout the base in his violent flight to escape. 2012: One Year Later The United States, and possibly the entire world, is now a devastated landscape of death as the Drakul-serum virus spread quickly through the populace. Most of the infected died to rise again as creatures dubbed Primitives. These Primitives are rabid and violent creatures who only desire to kill and eat, spreading their virus wherever they feed. Others became what people call Vampires. Page 8 of 27
  9. 9. Though intelligent, many of the Vampires have become twisted and dark, believing themselves the next step in evolution and the rulers of this new age. Though they have many of the strengths of their namesakes, they are not invincible and can die if enough damage is done to them. They are also not affected by sunlight. Only those originally injected with the serum directly are able to create others Vampires with each human infected. All others will only rarely create a Vampire, most likely creating Primitives instead. Doctor Bryce and Professor Popovich, having been taken from the infected base before the world’s destruction and secured in a secret lab, have been trying to find a cure for the Drakul-virus and hopefully begin to repair the damage that they unwittingly caused. They find Sid, a Sergeant from the base that had been infected, who has been hunting the creatures in the area. They manage to cure him of the first stages of the Primitive state and he decides to help out however he can. He conveys the fact that he has a sister, who may still be out there. They also find a family of survivors, Darrel and Johanna Obbert, their daughters, Samantha and Nikki, and Nikki’s boyfriend Ty, while searching for necessary supplies. They come upon a nest of Vampires and lose Ty as well as Kelly’s dear friend Professor Popovich to the vampires, when they are dragged off into a nearby storm sewer. Nearby they find another survivor, Carl Sullivan, who has a classic irredeemable personality. Though he is degrading towards everyone, especially Sid, they bring him along, not knowing just how shallow he really is. Kelly tirelessly continues to find a cure of the Vampire, not knowing that the Vampires have other plans Page 9 of 27
  10. 10. The janitor Donald, now called Balphame, knows that his own race is doomed to eventual extinction if they cannot stop infecting their food source. He is even now having the area searched by his underlings for the Helsing Vial that disappeared from the lab during the evacuations. He hopes to locate and recruit a scientist to his cause. When he learns from a subordinate that Doctor Bryce has been found and is looking for a cure, he formulates a plan to lure her and her band to him. Balphame sends Danh Tu, his Lieutenant and trusted understudy, to seek out Doctor Bryce, the scientist of the survivors. Danh Tu manages to track them down and create scheme to lead the group to Balphame’s lair. The lab is attacked by a large group of Primitives. They are forced to pack up and flee the area just as Doctor Bryce has made a possible breakthrough. In the assault Johanna is dragged down and killed. Carl claims that there is a fairly secure warehouse within a few hours of the lab and they decide that the place is worth a look. When they arrive at the warehouse, Sid goes off to scout the grounds. While he’s gone, they are betrayed by Carl Sullivan. Doctor Bryce and the girls are captured and Darrell is killed by Carl. Before the Vampires can stop her, Nikki kills Carl in a fit of revenge. Sid, hearing the gunshots, runs to investigate. He finds a dying Darrell, who tells him what transpired before he dies. Sid hurries to find the entrance that the Vampires took into the warehouse. Page 10 of 27
  11. 11. Inside the warehouse, Sid is ambushed by Danh Tu and a fight ensues. Sid, eventually getting the upper hand, destroys Danh Tu. Sid is shot by Balphame, who has a couple surprises in store for the remaining group. Balphame reveals a Vampire Professor Popovich and Sid’s long lost sister, Brianna, who has also been turned. Sid is caught off guard by the turning of Brianna and she tears out his jugular, leaving him to die on the floor. Popovich leads Doctor Bryce out to the truck to retrieve the Helsing vial and talks to her of Balphame’s plan. He plans to save both races by fixing the damage to their genetic makeup by enslaving the rest of mankind, making them nothing more than glorified cattle. As they talk, Doctor Bryce plans and makes her decision, telling Professor Popovich that she’s ready. Popovich leads her back inside where she tells Balphame that she’ll give him the vial and work with him only if he changes her into a Vampire. He agrees and bites her, and suddenly begins to convulse and foam at the mouth. Doctor Bryce reveals that she injected her newly created antigen into herself, gambling that it would affect Balphame when he tries to turn her. With only one syringe left, she uses it on Sid’s sister, curing her of the Vampire Virus. Doctor Bryce can’t bring herself to shoot her beloved friend Popovich, but tells him that she’ll kill him if she sees him again. Doctor Bryce leaves with the Obbert daughters and Brianna, and hits the road to find another safe place to start creating more of the antigen that she hopes will save what’s left of the human race. The story closes on the possibility for a sequel as Balphame awakens, though it is uncertain whether he is still a Vampire or has become human. Page 11 of 27
  12. 12. Doctor Bryce still has to find a place to create more antigens and perhaps find some civilization to help her end the reign of the Vampires. In addition, Professor Popovich is still out there and could return. And then there’s Sid, who could be dead or could have become a Vampire…or something else. In the final scenes, Doctor Bryce has to make a hard decision: side with the Vampires, accepting the fate that the human race would be doomed to be nothing more than glorified cattle, or destroy one of the only Vampires who has thus far shown any regard for the welfare of their food supply. In the end, she goes with her heart and decides to continue to try to save the human race. The story can be loosely compared to 28 Days Later (2002) or Dawn of the Dead (2004), though with a vampiric and quick- moving zombies-like humanoids in the mix. The Vampires are intelligent, though slightly crazed with power. The story is a classic tale of the human race fighting on through adversity, choosing to continue the good fight instead of bending to enslavement by a more powerful force. Page 12 of 27
