  3. 3. How is OpenUK achieving this? • Building a visible and loud community around Open Technology in the UK by uniting people across existing projects • Influencing Legal and Policy to make sure the UK is a great place to do Open • Building education and Learning in Open Technology
  4. 4. Building a visible and loud community around Open Technology in the UK by: • uniting people across existing communities • projects through workstreams with deliverables, mailing lists, blogs, podcasts • events culminating in Open UK Week, 19 October
  5. 5. Influencing Legal and Policy to make sure the UK is a great place to do Open • Invited to speak with UK Trade on aspects of treaty negotiations • Future Leaders working on review of Government terms • Review of new laws and policy • Joint report on UK and Open with OSOR
  6. 6. Building education and Learning in Open Technology • Kids’ Competition – 47 schools, sponsored by Red Hat, Imogen Heap participation, will encourage girls in particular but all kids • 3000 kids will attend “Summer Camp” digitally with online course and e-zine • Created Channel Partnership with The Learning Partnership providing info and content on Open in 1000 schools through Dendrite Platform • Curriculum – working on GCSE and Scottish equivalent for 2022 • Apprenticeship scheme- being created for 2022 • Code camp for Young Kids – finding partner to add ”Open” to what is taught • University Group – 3 day Professors Open Source Software Education training for up to 30 Universities as part of OpenUK Week in 2020 or 2021

How is OpenUK being run? • CEO – paid part time working full time – speaking, inspiring, leading • Admin resource – day or two a week • Events/ Project Manager – funded by GitHub • Exec team of part time volunteers, GC, VP Comms, CFO etc • Board of Volunteers • Committees of Volunteers Board in place for 2 years and move to elected Board end of 2021. Voting structure to be agreed in July at Board Away Day and creating a Supporter package for individuals.

How is OpenUK being funded? - Membership – being replaced by Supporter status for individuals - Innovate UK Funding for participation in Open health project - Sponsorship - General: Microsoft, Google, Arm - Event Specific: Red Hat, Bristows, GitHub, Huawei - In Kind: OneBite ad agency, Moorcrofts legal, Fieldfisher use of rooms and staff, Civiv web

What is the Future Leaders Group? - Group of individuals who are interested in open technologies. - From a wide range of backgrounds across technology, intellectual property, outsourcing, procurement, data, coding and innovation. - Making sure that the UK is a great place to bring open technologies. - Includes private practice lawyers and in-house counsel that work in the technology sector and related fields.

What is the Future Leaders Group? - Uniting and introducing future leaders to each other and to existing leaders in open. - Supports OpenUK’s Legal & Policy Committee’s aims and activities. - Bringing together legal and policy future leaders in Open Technology in the UK while building a body of expertise and experience in legal and policy matters. - Understanding Open Technology legal and policy matters and the use of tools and resources to enable the adoption of Open Technology.
  12. 12. What does the Future Leaders Group get up to? • Education –Training sessions with experts from around the world focusing on all different aspects of “open”.
  13. 13. What does the Future Leaders Group get up to? • Review – Conducting a review of public procurement terms used by public bodies in the UK and how to “level the playing field” across open and proprietary technologies leading to “recommendations report”.
  14. 14. What does the Future Leaders Group get up to? • Events – Future plans for events both social and educational! • Including future events with similar level stakeholders within public bodies.
