One of the greatest challenges we have is pursuit of
excellence and our highest ideals. Mediocrity seems
to be the order of the day, most especially in our
local context where hard work and diligence gives
way to the expediency of monetary inducement and
momentary personal gain, where we are surrounded
by so few examples of exemplary acts of personal
sacrifice and commitment.
The challenge that faces us as
individuals, organizations and Nigerians is how do
we instil this desire and create a system where hard
work is valued and there is a direct correlation
between effort expended and reward given. So that
all participants can fully engage their highest
capacity.
Can such a system be created?
Can we change the path we are currently on and
chart a new and exciting course? A course that we
lead us to greater vistas of success and
achievement as individuals and collectively as
organizations and businesses.
I believe so, not only that we MUST !!!
The creation of such a system must embrace
fundamentals of personal effectiveness, leadership
training, organizational dynamics and economics. It
must bring together the best research in these areas
and make it applicable to the Nigerian context.
It must deliver practical, real world solutions and give
valuable metrics to sustain progress and evaluate
outcomes.
I would like to share with you one such system
simply called:
PROGRESSION
Progression takes the best research and thought in
business, human capacity
development, organizational dynamics, and
management amongst and builds a framework for
creating sustained personal, professional or
organizational progression. It defines 7 key areas of
focus.
i. Inspiration
ii. Differentiation
iii. Staging
iv. Mechanics
v. Memory
vi. Innovation
vii. Legacy
Inspiration:
To stimulate energies, ideals, or reverence
Motivation the unmotivated is largely impossible, It waits time
and creates unrealistic expectations for all those involves.
Instead we must learn to inspire the motivated.
We must learn how to inspire and understand what inspires the
motivated.
This modules gives you valuable insight and presents case
studies on how to develop an inspirational paradigm for others
to follow.
Differentiation:
to express specific distinguishing qualities
Inspired individuals are different. They work
harder, longer and more passionately. They are the
stars.
But, it takes more than inspiration, to sustain
differentiation. Differentiation itself is a skill that can
be learned. It requires consistent self-evaluation and
consistency.
This module is tasked with given you tools for self
evaluation and discipline.
Staging:
Platform or system of platforms used for
support
Building support structures is vital for continued
development. Knowing which structures will
stimulate growth and which will stifle it, that’s another
matter.
Learn how to create excellent support and platforms
essential to sustaining progression.
Mechanics:
Means by which an effect is produced or a
purpose is accomplished.
In a world of constant change, those that can create
mechanisms that can stimulate progress will excel.
Creating policies and processes to stimulate growth
takes clarity of context and unwavering commitments
for change.
Memory:
The process of reinforcing, reproducing and
recalling what has been learned and retained
From Apple to Disney, to Union Bank and GTB. They
all have their distinctive cultures. Customers and
clients of these companies have their expectation
and perceptions of what to expect from them.
Knowing how to use organizational memory creates
the possibility to create vibrant cultures aligned with
strategic objectives.
Innovation:
The art of making changes to something established
by introducing something new
All revolutions in business or technology are usually
really evolutionary and incremental changes in
existing. However, knowing which steps or changes
will lead to innovative solutions is the greatest
challenge.
We must learn how to create a culture that doesn’t
stifle innovation.
Succession:
the order that determines how one person or thing
follows another
Knowing how and when to let go is fundamental for
progression. Understanding that the ability to “train
up” and the role it plays in organizational success is
crucial for corporate longevity.
To focus on these areas and develop and deploying
them in increasing agility will give you the ability to
sustain and execute progression and exhibit
leadership in your specific domain, be it
business, social, professional or personal.
