Wind Watch Golf & Country Club
I’ve played both the old and new layouts at Wind Watch. It is a nice course, I have always
struggled at. Incidentally, whenever I play here, it rains. It ultimately turns into a monsoon.
Aside from the course slowing down, there were a few times I thought my clubs were going to
fly out of my hand. Sad part is they would have gone further than I hit the ball if I lost them.
So for the old layout, the 1st hole was memorable. They had us on a high tee box, with a
target to aimfor. If you went right, there was a condo complex. The starter even tells you, aim
left so you don’t hit them. I played that layout 5 times. I dropped a ball on someone’s’ roof 5
times. I blame the starter for pointing them out. The way he shook his head, I am convinced he
did it on purpose.
The old layout always frustrated me. It wasn’t the worst I ever played, that honor belongs
to Mill Pond, but it just never went well. The course did look nice as far as the layout goes. It
was a nice change from the length of Cherry Creek which we were playing a lot at the time.
So on to the new layout. I played it 2 or 3 times, and I openly preferred the old layout. The
new layout was very nice, but it looked more like a Florida course, and felt unnatural for a cold,
rainy day on Long Island. Let me admit, I am not the biggest fan of being wet and cold, so I
might be biased against the course. My initial thought looking at some of the holes was ‘this
doesn’t belong here’.
Now my criticisms are going to be based on a round in terrible weather. There are a lot of
bunkers, and I put my ball into most of them. You’d think I was aiming for them. Otherwise, I
may as well have been hitting out of mud. It was a round where I was better off hitting out of
the rough, because it wasn’t as muddy. My general feel for the round was ‘this course is just
overly difficult’. The pace was slow, but it was a Saturday morning, and I should have known
better. We were a 3 some, and none of us scored well.

I will give a more in depth view if I play in good weather conditions. It was one of those days
I should have stayed in bed. Once I saw my shots that did hit the fairway leave a wake, I should
have called it a day.
