  4. 4. 4 Fellowship with God  Like Norman, we can have a distorted view of our sins and our relationship with God.  Some people:  Don’t understand the nature of our Holy God  Think that everybody is good and will be saved  Believe that all are sinners and don’t stand a chance of being in heaven  Think they are perfect, like Norman  Feel that perfection is impossible, it is hopeless
  5. 5. 5 Light and Darkness  God is lightGod is light  1 John 1:51 John 1:5 - This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all.
  6. 6. 6 Light and Darkness  “God is lightGod is light” lets us know that:  God is simply fantastic, glorious, visible, enlightening  God is open and available to all  God is pure and holy  God can show us the way to live

  10. 10. 10 The Big Lie  The lie is a denial of sin and the results of sin in our lives  Some see sin as gone forever at baptism  Some thought they had risen above sin  Gnostics thought they knew how to rise above the temptations of the world
  11. 11. 11 The Big Lie  John identifies the lie  I John 1:6I John 1:6 - If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.  1 John 1:81 John 1:8 - If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
  12. 12. 12 The Big Lie  I John 1:10 -I John 1:10 - If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.
  13. 13. 13 Sinful Men / Holy God  How can sinful men have fellowship with a Holy God?  Fellowship occurs when we are in the light  Romans 13:13aRomans 13:13a - Let us walk properly, as in the day  Ephesians 5:8Ephesians 5:8 - For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light
  14. 14. 14 Sinful Men / Holy God  2 Corinthians 4:62 Corinthians 4:6 - For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.  1 Thessalonians 5:4-51 Thessalonians 5:4-5 - 4 But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief. 5 You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness.
