  1. 1. Quick & Easy Video Beyond The Basics @Lawnz #smx #33C Hi.
  2. 2. Quick & Easy Video: Beyond The Basics @Lawnz #smx #33C Lawrence Basso motion design director I’ve been with Overit for over 9 years and oversee a department of 5 people, each with specialized skills. My department handles anything related to motion design, video, animation, audio and so on, including illustration and photography. Overit is a full-service creative agency with 7 different departments, helping clients with all aspects of marketing their business. We work with clients ranging from National and International Corporations all the way down to small Mom-n-Pop shops.
  3. 3. Quick & Easy Video: Beyond The Basics @Lawnz #smx #33C Beyond The Basics Things You Should... • Have a working knowledge of video and video software. • Know your outlet (YouTube, Vimeo, your website, etc). • Know your audience. • Know your goals. • Know your limitations.
  4. 4. Quick & Easy Video: Beyond The Basics @Lawnz #smx #33C Content Is Key Preparation can be very helpful. Writing scripts, notes or cue cards; storyboarding ideas and concepts before any sort of production work begins. Designating the proper amount of time for prep, production and completion of your video. The number one concern with producing videos should be content. • What message are you trying to convey? • Is the information relevant and/or relatable to your business? • Presentation is important; smooth delivery, believability, succinct messaging. • Entertaining (funny, emotional), informative (educational, eye-opening).
  5. 5. Quick & Easy Video: Beyond The Basics @Lawnz #smx #33C Books Get Judged By Their Covers Give people what they want. There’s nothing wrong with giving away tips, tricks and secrets. It can add honesty, integrity and validity to you and your business, and people like that. Appearances can speak a lot about your business. • Good Lighting: People need to see what you’re showing them. • Good Sound: People need to hear what you’re saying. • Supporting Graphics: Sometimes more visuals are necessary. • Good Content: Make it worth their while. Make them come back.

  13. 13. Quick & Easy Video: Beyond The Basics @Lawnz #smx #33C In-House or Outsource? Hooking up with a creative agency... • Is this new territory? • Do you have the time? • Can you achieve your ideas with a full-time dedicated employee? • Are your ideas bigger than what you can handle? • Are you wanting motion design, animation and overall craziness? • Are you wanting an outside perspective to your business?
  14. 14. Quick & Easy Video: Beyond The Basics @Lawnz #smx #33C Tips for Creating Better Video The sky’s the limit... but so is your time and knowledge. • Dedicated space with good lighting for shooting your videos. Natural light is best. Don’t overkill with light, but a nice even balance. • Invest: Buy a better camera, microphone/audio recording device. Nikon D5100 is under $500 | Zoom Recorder is under $200 • iMovie or Windows Movie Maker is easy enough for anyone to use. iMovie is only $15 | Windows Movie Maker is free • Some graphics and a little bit of background music can be a nice touch. Be supporting with the graphics, not driving. Be subtle with the music, not overpowering. • Take a class if you need to (local college or online).
