Our Mission

designed to meet the needs of our
students, combining book learning,
hands-on applications, and a work
experience placement.
Seabird College offers small class sizes
with in-class instruction, and additional
student supports like tutoring,
transportation from key locations and
other non-educational needs to remove
barriers to success.

In order to graduate with a BC Adult
Dogwood, students must complete 20
high school, credits including:
• Communications / English
• Mathematics 11 or 12
• Three 4 credit grade 12 courses
Students under 19 can take their BC
Dogwood or Adult Dogwood academic
requirements along with a trade or
vocation.
Students can be under 18 under special
circumstances but they must be enrolled
in the regular Dogwood Diploma
Program.

Taken with electives in a trade, the
combination of a BC Adult Dogwood and
trade certificate is a perfect way to obtain
both your high school credentials and a

This program offers the best basic
training for entry-level employment
in the auto body refinishing industry,
including:
• Tools and equipment
• Hardware and trim
• Surface preparation
• Oxy-acetylene welding
• MIG welding
• Sheet metal repair
• Structural repair
• Plastics and composites
• Undercoats and topcoats
After successfully completing the
program, students will be prepared for
employment opportunities in auto body
repair shops, custom paint and body
shops, independent shops, and specialty
shops such as restoration or custom hot
rods, fleet shops, fabrication shops, and
marine industries.

students with the skills needed for greater
access to trades training of their choice.
Students will gain 12-weeks of hands-on
and classroom experience in:

plumbers, electricians, welders, and more.

is an innovative introduction to
trades training developed by NVIT
to meet the growing demand to
“bridge” Aboriginal people to

applications, data management, business

Construction Craft Workers install
utility piping, place concrete, construct
roads, perform selective demolition
and underground work, assist skilled
tradespersons such as carpenters,
bricklayers and cement finishers in
construction activities and more. This
program will cover:
• Safe work practices
• Tool and equipment use
• Work organization
• Site, concrete and road work
• Scaffolding and access equipment
• Utilities and pipeline
Students can either enter the program
as part of their BC Adult Dogwood
program or as graduates. This program
may be used for BC Adult Dogwood
requirements.
Prerequisites
This program will prepare graduates for
work in the construction industry.

The program combines a range of courses
that provides a balance between a strong

or as graduates. The Education Assistant
certificate plus Dogwood is preferred by

in public or private schools, as well as
centers for learning, recreation, early
learning, tutoring and group homes, and
pre-schools.

Hairstylist & Introduction to Aesthetics
will include theory and practical work in
a professional environment.
• Hair and skin analysis
• Hair science
• Chemical texturing
• Business and marketing and more!
Students can enter this program as part of
their BC Adult Dogwood program. While
grade 12 is preferred, students may enter
with a grade 10 minimum.
Prerequisites
Graduates will be able to pursue further
education for careers in spas and in the
medi-spa environment for aestheticians.
They will have the hands-on experience
to pursue a career as a hairstylist in a
salon or to run their own business.

Assistant
The Health Care Assistant
program combines in-classroom
theoretical teaching with
hands-on, practical training.
The Health Care Assistant program
will prepare students to work in a
multi-faceted health care industry.

Health Care Assistants promote and
maintain the health, safety, independence,
comfort and well-being of their clients.
They also provide personal care assistance
and services in a caring manner that
recognizes and supports the unique
needs, abilities and backgrounds of clients
and their families.
Students should be highshool graduates,
or have minimum grade 10 English,
Math, First Aid and Food-Safe. These
are available at Seabird College prior
to program start. Students will need to
complete a criminal records check and
updated immunizations report.
Prerequisites
This program will provide graduates
with the skills and knowledge to become
health care workers, residential care
attendants, health care assistants or
nursing aides.

Learn the basics while building the skills
you need to successfully enter the Heavy
Equipment Operator program.
• Safety
• Basic maintenance
• Equipment operations
• Site management
Students can either enter the program as
part of their BC Adult Dogwood program
or as graduates. Students must have “N”
Driver’s Licence or better.
Grade 10 math. If students do not have
grade 10 math, they will be required to
complete a math upgrade as part of their
program.
Prerequisites
This program will prepare graduates for
the Heavy Equipment Operator program,
which offers hands-on equipment
training for excavation and construction
equipment operators looking to get
employed in the forestry, mining, civil,
road building, and oil and gas sectors.

The UFV Heavy Mechanical Trade
teaches you how to service and repair
commercial equipment such as trucks,
crawler units, and farm tractors. Basic
skills learned include:
• Using specialty equipment
• Starting and moving selected vehicles
• Servicing hydraulic systems, truck
components, track type equipment
• Servicing working attachments, gas
and diesel engine support systems
• Servicing air-brake systems
• Basic oxy-acetylene and arc welding
Grade 10 math.
Prerequisites
Graduates will be well prepared to enter
the trade as apprentices. Students will be
qualified to work on equipment in the
following industries: agriculture, mining,
oil fields, bus and transportation shops,
logging companies, trucking and heavy
equipment/truck shops.

facilities and more, as assistant chefs, sous
chefs, line cooks and cook’s assistants.

Certification, WHMIS and First Aid.

Speech and Language
Assistant
The First Nations Speech and
Language Assistant Program
is designed to improve the
individual’s knowledge of how to
support First Nations children
who have speech and/or language
needs.
Start Date:
September 2017

The overall goal of this program is to
train people in skills to deliver speech
and language assistance to First Nations
children with speech and language
challenges and to support their families.
Through this program, the student
will learn special techniques in how
to encourage the development of
communication in the early years. All
seven courses incorporate Stó:lō culture.
Students need to be 18 years of age
or older.
Prerequisites
This program will enable graduates to
work as speech and language assistants in
supported child development settings.
