At Seabird College, our programs are
designed to meet the needs of our
students, combining book learning,
hands-on applications, and a work
experience placement.
Seabird College offers small class sizes
with in-class instruction, and additional
student supports like tutoring,
transportation from key locations and
other non-educational needs to remove
barriers to success.

Registration deadline for Seabird College is August 26, 2017. Students under 18
years of age may be admitted with the Administrator’s permission.

minimums are met. See each individual

In order to graduate with a BC Adult
Dogwood, students must complete 20
high school, credits including:
•	 Communications / English
•	 Mathematics 11 or 12
•	 Three 4 credit grade 12 courses
Students under 19 can take their BC
Dogwood or Adult Dogwood academic
requirements along with a trade or
vocation.
Students can be under 18 under special
circumstances but they must be enrolled
in the regular Dogwood Diploma
Program.

Taken with electives in a trade, the
combination of a BC Adult Dogwood and
trade certificate is a perfect way to obtain
both your high school credentials and a
trade or vocation.

This program offers the best basic
training for entry-level employment
in the auto body refinishing industry,
including:
•	 Tools and equipment
•	 Hardware and trim
•	 Surface preparation
•	 Oxy-acetylene welding
•	 MIG welding
•	 Sheet metal repair
•	 Structural repair
•	 Plastics and composites
•	 Undercoats and topcoats
After successfully completing the
program, students will be prepared for
employment opportunities in auto body
repair shops, custom paint and body
shops, independent shops, and specialty
shops such as restoration or custom hot
rods, fleet shops, fabrication shops, and
marine industries.

The Bridging to Trades program provides
students with the skills needed for greater
access to trades training of their choice.
Students will gain 12-weeks of hands-on
and classroom experience in:
•	 Electrical
•	 Plumbing / Pipefitting
•	 Machining / Millwright
•	 Welding
This program will enable graduates to
pursue further education for careers as
plumbers, electricians, welders, and more.

The Bridging to Trades program
is an innovative introduction to
trades training developed by NVIT
to meet the growing demand to
“bridge” Aboriginal people to
trades training.

Students can enter this program as part
of their BC Adult Dogwood program or
as graduates with a BC Adult Dogwood
(grade 12).

Business Administration provides
training in accounting, business computer
applications, data management, business
information and management.

Students must have a reliable internet
connection and a newer computer
(Windows 7 – 2009 OS or newer).

Microsoft Office for duration of in-class
coursework.

This program will enable graduates to

junior marketing, business ownership,
accounting or payroll assistant, marketing
and data entry.

Construction Craft Workers install
utility piping, place concrete, construct
roads, perform selective demolition
and underground work, assist skilled
tradespersons such as carpenters,
bricklayers and cement finishers in
construction activities and more. This
program will cover:
•	 Safe work practices
•	 Tool and equipment use
•	 Work organization
•	 Site, concrete and road work
•	 Scaffolding and access equipment
•	 Utilities and pipeline
Students can either enter the program
as part of their BC Adult Dogwood
program or as graduates. This program
may be used for BC Adult Dogwood
requirements.
Prerequisites
This program will prepare graduates for
work in the construction industry.

Build the skills and knowledge
you’ll need to enter the
construction trade. This 120
hour program prepares students
to become Construction Craft
Workers, an in-demand career in
the province.

to pursue careers as Early Childhood
Educators in a variety of childcare settings
including pre-schools, daycares, drop-in
programs, home visiting programs, as
nannies, child advocates and more.

The program combines a range of courses
that provides a balance between a strong
theoretical foundation and practical
experiences:
•	 Role of the education assistant
•	 Learning styles, lesson plans
•	 Cultural connections and
perspectives
•	 Reaching the hard to teach
•	 Work experience
Students can either enter the program as
part of their BC Adult Dogwood program
or as graduates. The Education Assistant
certificate plus Dogwood is preferred by
school districts.
Prerequisites
This program will enable graduates to
pursue a career as an Education Assistant
in public or private schools, as well as
centers for learning, recreation, early
learning, tutoring and group homes, and
pre-schools.

Hairstylist & Introduction to Aesthetics
will include theory and practical work in
a professional environment.
•	 Hair and skin analysis
•	 Hair science
•	 Chemical texturing
•	 Business and marketing and more!
Students can enter this program as part of
their BC Adult Dogwood program. While
grade 12 is preferred, students may enter
with a grade 10 minimum.
Prerequisites
Graduates will be able to pursue further
education for careers in spas and in the
medi-spa environment for aestheticians.
They will have the hands-on experience
to pursue a career as a hairstylist in a
salon or to run their own business.

style? Do you have a passion for
hair and beauty?
The Hairstylist & Introduction
to Aesthetics program combines
skin and nail care with techniques
in hair design, shaping and
colouring. Qualifies for Level 1

will write the BC Beauty Council
Exam.

Health Care
Assistant
The Health Care Assistant
program combines in-classroom
theoretical teaching with
hands-on, practical training.
The Health Care Assistant program
will prepare students to work in a
multi-faceted health care industry.
Start Date:

Health Care Assistants promote and
maintain the health, safety, independence,
comfort and well-being of their clients.
They also provide personal care assistance
and services in a caring manner that
recognizes and supports the unique
needs, abilities and backgrounds of clients
and their families.
Students should be highshool graduates,
or have minimum grade 10 English,
Math, First Aid and Food-Safe. These
are available at Seabird College prior
to program start. Students will need to
complete a criminal records check and
updated immunizations report.
Prerequisites
This program will provide graduates
with the skills and knowledge to become
health care workers, residential care
attendants, health care assistants or
nursing aides.

Learn the basics while building the skills
you need to successfully enter the Heavy
Equipment Operator program.
•	 Safety
•	 Basic maintenance
•	 Equipment operations
•	 Site management
Students can either enter the program as
part of their BC Adult Dogwood program
or as graduates. Students must have “N”
Driver’s Licence or better.
Grade 10 math. If students do not have
grade 10 math, they will be required to
complete a math upgrade as part of their
program.
Prerequisites
This program will prepare graduates for
the Heavy Equipment Operator program,
which offers hands-on equipment
training for excavation and construction
equipment operators looking to get
employed in the forestry, mining, civil,
road building, and oil and gas sectors.

The UFV Heavy Mechanical Trade
teaches you how to service and repair
commercial equipment such as trucks,
crawler units, and farm tractors. Basic
skills learned include:
•	 Using specialty equipment
•	 Starting and moving selected vehicles
•	 Servicing hydraulic systems, truck
components, track type equipment
•	 Servicing working attachments, gas
and diesel engine support systems
•	 Servicing air-brake systems
•	 Basic oxy-acetylene and arc welding
Grade 10 math.
Prerequisites
Graduates will be well prepared to enter
the trade as apprentices. Students will be
qualified to work on equipment in the
following industries: agriculture, mining,
oil fields, bus and transportation shops,
logging companies, trucking and heavy
equipment/truck shops.

repair heavy equipment.

Students will learn about:
•	 Preparation and presentation
•	 Major techniques and principles
•	 Menu planning and costing
•	 Safety, sanitation and storage; and
•	 Customer relations
Grade 10 math and English. If students
do not have grade 11 math or grade 12
English, they will be required to complete
these courses as part of their program.
Students can enter this program as part
of their BC Adult Dogwood program.
While grade 12 is preferred, students may
enter with a grade 10 minimum.
Prerequisites
This program will enable graduates to
pursue careers in bistros, hotels, spa
and destination resorts, extended care
facilities and more, as assistant chefs, sous
chefs, line cooks and cook’s assistants.
Upon successful completion you
will receive a Professional Cook
Level 1 Certificate, Food Safe Level 1
Certification, WHMIS and First Aid.

Speech and Language
Assistant
The First Nations Speech and
Language Assistant Program
is designed to improve the
individual’s knowledge of how to
support First Nations children
who have speech and/or language
needs.
Start Date:
September 2017
Pending sufficient student enrollment.
The overall goal of this program is to
train people in skills to deliver speech
and language assistance to First Nations
children with speech and language
challenges and to support their families.
Through this program, the student
will learn special techniques in how
to encourage the development of
communication in the early years. All
seven courses incorporate Stó:lō culture.
Students need to be 18 years of age
or older.
Prerequisites
This program will enable graduates to
work as speech and language assistants in
supported child development settings.

•	 Foundations and occupational skills
•	 Cutting and gouging processes
•	 Fusion, braze, and shielded metal
arc welding
•	 Electric arc welding
•	 Semi-automatic welding
•	 Basic metallurgy
•	 Welding drawings
•	 Layout and fabricate components
•	 Submerged arc welding

This program is designed to
provide foundations training for
welding. A welder is a person who
has training in and is capable of

metals in all positions, on both
plate and/or pipe.

You’ve got great trade career
choices – from carpentry and
plumbing to aerospace and
horticulture. Women are finding
challenges, job satisfaction and
good pay in the skilled trades.

This entry level (pre-apprenticeship)
trades exploration, training and
employment program is targeted at
women interested in trades.
The program is also available for other
eligible British Columbians facing
barriers to entering trades occupations.

(grade 12).
Prerequisites
This program provides an introduction
to carpentry, plumbing, electrical and
welding. This will help guide students to
a career in the trades.

  • 2. About Seabird College Our Mission Seabird College is dedicated to teaching and learning. We believe that sound education rests on a commitment to a code of academic integrity that stresses the principles of honesty, trust, respect, fairness and responsibility. We are committed to excellence and the highest standards. By providing students with our unique wrap-around services we support them in achieving their academic and training goals. At Seabird College every student is respected and valued. Our Approach At Seabird College, our programs are designed to meet the needs of our students, combining book learning, hands-on applications, and a work experience placement. Seabird College offers small class sizes with in-class instruction, and additional student supports like tutoring, transportation from key locations and other non-educational needs to remove barriers to success. Registration Apply now to Bands for post-secondary funding deadlines. Registration deadline for Seabird College is August 26, 2017. Students under 18 years of age may be admitted with the Administrator’s permission. Courses will run when class size minimums are met. See each individual course for a description of criteria.   • 5. 5 In order to graduate with a BC Adult Dogwood, students must complete 20 high school, credits including: • Communications / English • Mathematics 11 or 12 • Three 4 credit grade 12 courses Students under 19 can take their BC Dogwood or Adult Dogwood academic requirements along with a trade or vocation. Students can be under 18 under special circumstances but they must be enrolled in the regular Dogwood Diploma Program. Contact us to see if funding is available to earn your BC Adult Dogwood. Taken with electives in a trade, the combination of a BC Adult Dogwood and trade certificate is a perfect way to obtain both your high school credentials and a trade or vocation.   • 6. 6 This program offers the best basic training for entry-level employment in the auto body refinishing industry, including: • Tools and equipment • Hardware and trim • Surface preparation • Oxy-acetylene welding • MIG welding • Sheet metal repair • Structural repair • Plastics and composites • Undercoats and topcoats After successfully completing the program, students will be prepared for employment opportunities in auto body repair shops, custom paint and body shops, independent shops, and specialty shops such as restoration or custom hot rods, fleet shops, fabrication shops, and marine industries. Career Opportunities Automotive Collision Repair & Refinishing Students will get a thorough introduction to the trade and develop skills expected by employers.   • 7. 7 The Bridging to Trades program provides students with the skills needed for greater access to trades training of their choice. Students will gain 12-weeks of hands-on and classroom experience in: • Electrical • Plumbing / Pipefitting • Machining / Millwright • Welding This program will enable graduates to pursue further education for careers as plumbers, electricians, welders, and more. Career Opportunities Bridging to Trades Have you ever wondered if a career in trades is right for you? The Bridging to Trades program is an innovative introduction to trades training developed by NVIT to meet the growing demand to “bridge” Aboriginal people to trades training.   • 8. 8 Business Administration provides training in accounting, business computer applications, data management, business information and management. • Introduction to accounting • Accounting using Simply Accounting • Business computer applications • Data management • Business information management • Marketing Students must have a reliable internet connection and a newer computer (Windows 7 – 2009 OS or newer). Students will be provided with Microsoft Office for duration of in-class coursework. Prerequisites This program will enable graduates to seek careers in office administration, junior marketing, business ownership, accounting or payroll assistant, marketing and data entry. Career Opportunities Business Administration Develop professional skills and knowledge in the field of business. This program gives students a broad understanding of business practices. Qualifies for Level 1 post-secondary funding. Start Date: September 5, 2017 with orientation at Seabird College Evening classes at Chilliwack Community Services.   • 9. 9 Construction Craft Workers install utility piping, place concrete, construct roads, perform selective demolition and underground work, assist skilled tradespersons such as carpenters, bricklayers and cement finishers in construction activities and more. This program will cover: • Safe work practices • Tool and equipment use • Work organization • Site, concrete and road work • Scaffolding and access equipment • Utilities and pipeline Students can either enter the program as part of their BC Adult Dogwood program or as graduates. This program may be used for BC Adult Dogwood requirements. Prerequisites This program will prepare graduates for work in the construction industry. Career Opportunities Construction Craft Worker Build the skills and knowledge you’ll need to enter the construction trade. Two current letters of reference written and dated within a year of application, attesting to personal suitability for working with young children. Prerequisites This program will enable graduates to pursue careers as Early Childhood Educators in a variety of childcare settings including pre-schools, daycares, drop-in programs, home visiting programs, as nannies, child advocates and more. Career Opportunities Early Childhood Educator Are you passionate about working with children? This program will prepare you with the knowledge and skills necessary to work with young children and their families in diverse early learning settings in British Columbia.   • 11. 11 The program combines a range of courses that provides a balance between a strong theoretical foundation and practical experiences: • Role of the education assistant • Learning styles, lesson plans • Cultural connections and perspectives • Reaching the hard to teach • Work experience Students can either enter the program as part of their BC Adult Dogwood program or as graduates. The Education Assistant certificate plus Dogwood is preferred by school districts. Prerequisites This program will enable graduates to pursue a career as an Education Assistant in public or private schools, as well as centers for learning, recreation, early learning, tutoring and group homes, and pre-schools. Career Opportunities Education Assistant Get trained for a career supporting children and teachers in inclusive learning environments. The Education Assistant program prepares students for a career in supporting students with diverse needs in K-12 classrooms. Qualifies for Level 1 post-secondary funding.   • 12. 12 Hairstylist & Introduction to Aesthetics will include theory and practical work in a professional environment. • Hair and skin analysis • Hair science • Chemical texturing • Business and marketing and more! Students can enter this program as part of their BC Adult Dogwood program. While grade 12 is preferred, students may enter with a grade 10 minimum. Prerequisites Graduates will be able to pursue further education for careers in spas and in the medi-spa environment for aestheticians. They will have the hands-on experience to pursue a career as a hairstylist in a salon or to run their own business. Career Opportunities Hairstylist & Introduction to Aesthetics Do you have a creative sense of style? Do you have a passion for hair and beauty? The Hairstylist & Introduction to Aesthetics program combines skin and nail care with techniques in hair design, shaping and colouring. Qualifies for Level 1 post-secondary funding.   • 13. 13 Health Care Assistant The Health Care Assistant program combines in-classroom theoretical teaching with hands-on, practical training. The Health Care Assistant program will prepare students to work in a multi-faceted health care industry. Start Date: September 5, 2017 Pending sufficient student enrollment. Partner: Nicola Valley Institute of Technology Health Care Assistants promote and maintain the health, safety, independence, comfort and well-being of their clients. They also provide personal care assistance and services in a caring manner that recognizes and supports the unique needs, abilities and backgrounds of clients and their families. Students should be highshool graduates, or have minimum grade 10 English, Math, First Aid and Food-Safe. These are available at Seabird College prior to program start. Students will need to complete a criminal records check and updated immunizations report. Prerequisites This program will provide graduates with the skills and knowledge to become health care workers, residential care attendants, health care assistants or nursing aides.   • 14. 14 Learn the basics while building the skills you need to successfully enter the Heavy Equipment Operator program. • Safety • Basic maintenance • Equipment operations • Site management Students can either enter the program as part of their BC Adult Dogwood program or as graduates. Students must have “N” Driver’s Licence or better. Grade 10 math. If students do not have grade 10 math, they will be required to complete a math upgrade as part of their program. Prerequisites This program will prepare graduates for the Heavy Equipment Operator program, which offers hands-on equipment training for excavation and construction equipment operators looking to get employed in the forestry, mining, civil, road building, and oil and gas sectors. Career Opportunities Heavy Equipment Operator (Preparatory) Start on your path to becoming a Heavy Equipment Operator. This program offers a combination of courses that will help you upgrade your skills in order to apply to the Heavy Equipment Operator program.   • 15. 15 The UFV Heavy Mechanical Trade teaches you how to service and repair commercial equipment such as trucks, crawler units, and farm tractors. Basic skills learned include: • Using specialty equipment • Starting and moving selected vehicles • Servicing hydraulic systems, truck components, track type equipment • Servicing working attachments, gas and diesel engine support systems • Servicing air-brake systems • Basic oxy-acetylene and arc welding Grade 10 math. Prerequisites Graduates will be well prepared to enter the trade as apprentices. Students will be qualified to work on equipment in the following industries: agriculture, mining, oil fields, bus and transportation shops, logging companies, trucking and heavy equipment/truck shops. Career Opportunities Heavy Mechanical Trade This program can put students on the road towards a career by teaching them how to service and repair heavy equipment.   • 16. 16 Students will learn about: • Preparation and presentation • Major techniques and principles • Menu planning and costing • Safety, sanitation and storage; and • Customer relations Grade 10 math and English. If students do not have grade 11 math or grade 12 English, they will be required to complete these courses as part of their program. Upon successful completion you will receive a Professional Cook Level 1 Certificate, Food Safe Level 1 Certification, WHMIS and First Aid.   • 17. 17 Speech and Language Assistant The First Nations Speech and Language Assistant Program is designed to improve the individual’s knowledge of how to support First Nations children who have speech and/or language needs. Start Date: September 2017 Pending sufficient student enrollment. The overall goal of this program is to train people in skills to deliver speech and language assistance to First Nations children with speech and language challenges and to support their families. Through this program, the student will learn special techniques in how to encourage the development of communication in the early years. All seven courses incorporate Stó:lō culture. Students need to be 18 years of age or older. Prerequisites This program will enable graduates to work as speech and language assistants in supported child development settings. If students do not have grade 10 math, they will be required to complete a math upgrade as part of their program. Prerequisites This program will enable graduates to pursue careers working in the welding trade. Career Opportunities Welding Foundations Develop the skills and knowledge for a career in welding. This program is designed to provide foundations training for welding. A welder is a person who has training in and is capable of welding ferrous and non-ferrous metals in all positions, on both plate and/or pipe. You’ve got great trade career choices – from carpentry and plumbing to aerospace and horticulture. Women are finding challenges, job satisfaction and good pay in the skilled trades. This entry level (pre-apprenticeship) trades exploration, training and employment program is targeted at women interested in trades. The program is also available for other eligible British Columbians facing barriers to entering trades occupations.
