The Kashwakamak Lake Sustainability Plan was approved at the Kashwakamak Annual General Meeting (AGM) on July 9, 2016. This plan is a living document that will be reviewed every five years. It will be implemented by volunteers in the lake community over the coming years.

Kashwakamak Lake is located in the North Frontenac Township, in Central Ontario, Canada.

Fisheries Objective Actions Protect, maintain and enhance indigenous fish and wildlife diversity and their required habitat • Improve fish habitat around the lake • Work to reduce stressors on fish populations 13 Issues: Fish habitat protection, proper fishing practices and enforcement of fishing regulations

Shoreline Protection & Health Objective Actions Maintain and encourage healthy shorelines • Determine the percentage of natural versus altered (degraded, hardened and/or ornamental) shorelines on the lake • Educate lake community on programs available for shoreline restoration 14 Issues: Shoreline erosion, removal of aquatic vegetation, loss of habitat, developed shorelines

Impacts of Boating & Personal Watercrafts Objective Actions Ensure our lake community is aware of the impacts of specific boating behaviors • Share information and educate motor boat users how to minimize their impact on the lake • Reduce impact on shoreline erosion and on wildlife • Protect Lake from the introduction of invasive species • Promote safe boating habits • Educate users on new low emission engine technology • Gain an understanding for how many motorized, and non-motorized boats are on the lake 15 Issues: Shoreline erosion, noise, boat traffic, personal safety, invasive species, pollution, impact on wildlife

Development Pressures Objective Actions Ensure the Township Official Plans and Zoning Bylaws protect the long- term health of the lake • Understand the Township of North Frontenac’s Official Plan and Zoning Bylaws • Ensure shoreline buffer areas are protected during development • Educate community regarding development pressures • Ensure that any development plans are shared (including Green Energy initiatives) • Stay current on Official Plan and Bylaws 16 Issues: Overdevelopment, increase in number of boats, shoreline clearing, loss of habitat, erosion, privacy, noise and other pollution

Economic Impact Objective Actions Support local businesses • Raise awareness of the benefits local businesses provide to the community • Educate seasonal residents about the available businesses and services • Market "Buy Local" in the community 17 Issues: The top value and concern expressed by 75% of businesses surveyed is the need for local customers for their operations to survive

Flora, Fauna, Wildlife & Forestry Objective Actions Understand wildlife in the area • Collect data on wildlife in the area Protect species at risk • Encourage the protection of Species and Risk • Monitor loon population and nesting Understand forestry in the area • Encourage KLA community to review forestry management activities in the area 18 Issues: Loss of wildlife habitat, invasive species, species at risk, development impacts, destruction of shoreline vegetation

Aquatic Vegetation Objective Actions Develop a better understanding of the state of aquatic vegetation in Kashwakamak Lake • Monitor aquatic vegetation within Kashwakamak Lake • Encourage research into determining the factors contributing to growth of aquatic vegetation • Promote stewardship and land use practices aimed at reducing excessive aquatic vegetation and algae growth 19 Issues: Excessive growth, interference with recreation, aesthetics, introduction of invasive species
