  1. 1. OCP Ecuador S.A. is a consortium formed by several multinational companies aiming the construction and operation of the second oil pipeline in Ecuador. The 560 km. Heavy Crude Oil Pipeline (OCP), is the unique net in the country that transports heavy crude oil with API grades from 18 to 24. The installations of the OCP, that begins its operations in the year 2003, are the following: • Five stations: Amazonas, Cayagama, Sardinas, Páramo, Chiquilpe and Puerto Quito. • The OCP Maritime Terminal. Challenges The main priority of the OCP is reaching a high level of security in the operation of the pipeline in order to safeguard the integrity of people and environment.   2. 2. June 2012 OCP aims to become a Latin-American reference in the efficient, secure, sustainable and social responsible hydrocarbon transport that stimulates the development of the region. The most significant challenges of the project are: • Survival • Competitiveness • Rentability Solution The Schneider Electric solution, already installed and used in the pipeline industry worldwide, was selected to achieve these challenges. The project consists of the engineering, design, production, supply, FAT, SAT, commissioning, and guarantee, by means of the OASyS SCADA system, for efficient and responsible transport of the heavy crude. The system also includes: • A Main Control Room, with real-time, historical servers and redundant LAN (Local Area Network), and an Emergency Control Room, both in Quito. • Seven remote operation centers. • Four pumping stations and three press reduction stations, each one including a Remote Operation Workstation (ROW) connected to the local net (LAN) and accessing the SCADA system through the communications network. • 25 block valves. • Schneider Electric liquid management applications: • Stock management. • Daily balance of oil movement at every site metering skid. • Custody transfer measurement and ticketing. • SCADA measurement audit trail. • Leak detection and localization system with special advanced applications such as scraper tracking, instrumentation analysis, efficiency and optimization of pumping stations. • PLCs Allen Bradley (Contrologix in stations and Compactlogix in valves). • Review as local HMI (Human Man Interface) in stations. Fiber optic as main communication network and satellite as back up channel, for voice and data transfer. The stations located along the pipeline have local control systems that are connected to the SCADA through the communication network to transport data between different locations. The control system is based on different levels, each with capacity to work locally: • First level: Field instrumentation. • Second level: Main control PLC. • Third level: User interface. • Fourth level: Control SCADA system.
