La proposition d’une exposition de photographies sur la Bolivie s’est imposée à la suite d’un trekking d’un mois dans ce pays andin méconnu, peu touristique et pourtant saisissant par la beauté d’un territoire préservé.
Revenir donc, à travers une sélection d’images de formats différents, sur ces paysages parfois au seuil de l’irréel ou de la peinture. L’immersion dans de tels espaces coupe le souffle - au propre comme au figuré - tant ce qui s’offre à vos yeux, à votre corps tout entier est de l’ordre du sublime, de l’émotion pure.
Difficile de le dire dans une photographie. L’instant comme le souvenir de ce vécu sont au-delà des mots et des pixels. Restent cependant un sentiment d’immensité, un jeu des reliefs, des tracés géologiques et une incroyable action de la lumière qui de ses rayons, modèle et colore plans et volumes.
Que dit ce mot « paysage » ? Que désigne-t-il ? Il est « sujet », et dans l’ordre de l’image, les restitutions qu’en firent les peintres, de Matthias Grünewald à John Constable et William Turner, exaltent la couleur, jouent de rudes accords et d’une vivacité surprenante, interprètent dans toute leur immense variété les phénomènes de la vie et de la nature.
Dès lors, le paysage dans sa re-présentation - une altérité et une illusion à la fois - n’induit-il pas une abstraction ? Ne l’est-il par essence ? Car, insaisissable réel que modifient la lumière, le temps et le déplacement, sa perception est un recommencement et un souvenir.
La photographie n’est que traces faites de réel et d’irréel, témoignant d’un ici et d’un ailleurs.
Le paysage est une expérience du sens au cœur d’un espace et d’un instant qui constituent un seuil auquel l’image nous donne accès comme un récit en rêve. Le voyageur projette hors de soi ce qui lui est apparu dans un ordre auquel il appartenait. La photographie est alors un manque et un désir qui fait du sujet un objet invisible. Abstraction.
Le choix de photographies (sur plus de 3000 prises de vue) ne restitue pas la variété et la richesse de la Bolivie tant sur le plan humain que sur le plan géographique. Il propose, à travers le regard du voyageur, ces « I.P. » pour Image-Paysage ou Image-Poétique dont le titre générique est suivi d’une indication temporelle précisant l’action formatrice de la lumière ainsi fixée et d’une mention de lieu pour le souvenir qu’en forme la mémoire.
Graphiste de formation, Sébastien Lagnier a manifesté très tôt son intérêt pour les questions que posent les images dans leur rapport aux représentations du réel.
