3. Introduction
Over the past 4 months I have been an Intern at Wheaton Bible Church,
located in West Chicago Illinois. Throughout this experience I have begun to learn
practical skills on how to run a small group. I have also developed a compassionate
heart toward the junior high girls who are not only just in my small group but in
our ministry as a whole. This ministry has a warmheart toward each student that
walks through these doors. However, as I have gotten to know some of the girls in
this ministry over the couple of months, I have came across girls that have gone
through so much, and they are only 12-13 years old. These girls have so many
questions. They are hurt, confused, and are looking for guidance in what to do
next. That is why Anchored Ministry is a great program. The word “Anchored”
means to provide a firm secure foundation. That is what we want to provide here at
Anchored Ministry.

4. What is the need?
Anchored Ministry is a program for young women ages 12-13 who are
seeking guidance and direction from a mentor. This gives them an opportunity to
tell others about what has been going on in their lives. They can also meet others
who have gone through similar circumstances. They will get advice on how to get
through a certain situation they are facing or how to move on from something that
has happened in their past.
Junior high girls are very busy. If we plan another program and give it it’s
own separate night that will make them even more busy. This won’t just affect
their schedules but will affect their parent’s schedules too. That is why this
program is designed for a sunday morning. On sundays the parents already are
coming to church and if not this gives that parent a chance to come to service. This
program gives young girls the opportunity to go deeper in the Bible and with
situations they are struggling with.

5. Theology
Everything we do at Anchored Ministry is built on a theology foundation.
Our theology foundations theme verse is Hebrew 6:16-20[a] (NLT)
Which says“Now when people take an oath, they call on someone greater than
themselves to hold them to it. And without any question that oath is binding. God
also bound himself with an oath, so that those who received the promise could be
perfectly sure that he would never change his mind. So God has given both his
promise and his oath. These two things are unchangeable because it is impossible
for God to lie. Therefore, we who have fled to him for refuge can have great
confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us. This hope is a strong and
trustworthy anchor for our souls. It leads us through the curtain into God’s inner
sanctuary. Jesus has already gone in there for us.”
The author of Hebrew 6:19-20[a] is writing to the people who were facing
hardship and persecution because of their Christian faith. The author is urging
them to persevere by putting their focus on Jesus Christ and the salvation that he
provides. The author is also trying to give them biblical hope, not just positive and
cheerful, but a steady attitude toward joy that is based on the promises of God, who
cannot lie.
The big picture we want to show the students who go through our program
at Anchored Ministry is that they are the boat in this story. A boat needs an anchor
when it goes out to sea, to help ride out the storm so that it does not get blown off
course or into rocks nearby. Even in the safe harbor, a boat still needs an anchor so
that it will not drift away. The key is that whether we are in the storms of our life
or in the harbor during the calm times of life, we need an anchor for our souls so
that we do not drift into destruction. Here at Anchored Ministries we believe that
God does promise us hope, even in our hardest times.
4
6. Here are some other theological foundations that go along with our ministry.
Gospel
The Gospel is the starting point when it comes to going deeper within Christ. The
Gospel is also known as the “good news.” The “good news” is that Jesus Christ
died to pay the penalty for our sin so that we might become the children of God
through faith alone in Christ alone. At Anchored Ministry we want to share this
“good news” with our students. We want them to know what Christ has done for
them; that he has promised to give them hope and a future.
1 Corinthians 15:1-4 (NLT)
Let me now remind you, dear brothers and sisters, of the Good News I preached to you before.
You welcomed it then, and you still stand firm in it. It is this Good News that saves you if you
continue to believe the message I told you—unless, of course, you believed something that was
never true in the first place. I passed on to you what was most important and what had also been
passed on to me. Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. He was buried, and he was
raised from the dead on the third day, just as the Scriptures said.
John 8:31-32 (NLT)
Jesus said to the people who believed in him, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful
to my teachings. And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
Romans 1:16 (NLT)
For I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ. It is the power of God at work, saving
everyone who believes—the Jew first and also the Gentile.
Mark 1:14-15 (NLT)
Later on, after John was arrested, Jesus went into Galilee, where he preached God’s Good News.
“The time promised by God has come at last!” he announced. “The kingdom of God is near!
Repent of your sins and believe the Good news!”
5
7. Kingdom of God
The kingdom of God is that state of existence we long for as humans. In the
kingdom, all things exist and function the way they were meant to be there is no
pain, suffering, or imperfection.
Mark 4:30-34 (NLT)
Jesus said, “How can I describe the Kingdom of God? What story should I use to illustrate it? It
is like a mustard seed planted in the ground. It is the smallest of all seeds, but it becomes the
largest of all garden plants; it grows long branches, and birds can make nests in its shade.”Jesus
used many similar stories and illustrations to teach the people as much as they could understand.
In fact, in his public ministry he never taught without using parables; but afterward, when he was
alone with his disciples, he explained everything to them.
Jeremiah 29:11 (NLT)
For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for
disaster, to give you a future and a hope.
Revelation 1:5[a]-7 (NIV)
Him who loves us and has released us from our sins by His blood, 6who has made us to be a
kingdom, priests to His God and Father — to Him be the glory and power forever and ever!
Amen. Behold, He is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see Him—even those who
pierced Him. And all the tribes of the earth will mourn because of Him. So shall it be! Amen.…
6
8. Identity
Identity is how you see yourself, it is often shaped by your early experiences in
your life. Here at Anchored Ministry we believe that students will be walking in
with all different backgrounds. Some of these girls could have been emotionally,
physically, verbally, or sexually abused. Our goal is to help these young women
with their emotional wounds. We want to show them that they do have self-worth.
Ephesians 4:21-25 (NLT)
Since you have heard about Jesus and have learned the truth that comes from him,
throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by
lust and deception. Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on
your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy. So stop telling
lies. Let us tell our neighbors the truth, for we are all parts of the same body.
John 1:12 (ESV)
But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to
become children of God
Romans 8:31-39 (ESV)
What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He
who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also
with him graciously give us all things? Who shall bring any charge against God's
elect? It is God who justifies. Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who
died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who
indeed is interceding for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall
tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or
sword? As it is written,“For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are
regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.” No, in all these things we are more than
conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor
angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor
depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of
God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
7
9. Image of God
The Image of God is also known as “Imago Dei”. This term is a theological term
that means the relation between God and humanity. Here at Anchored Ministry we
believe that our students are made by the image of God in a moral, spiritual and
intellectual mature.
Genesis 1:27 (ESV)
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male
and female he created them.
Jeremiah 1:5 (MSG)
“Before I shaped you in the womb, I knew all about you. Before you saw the light
of day I had holy plans for you: A prophet to the nations that’s what I had in mind
for you.”
1 Peter 3:3-4 (NLT)
Don’t be concerned about the outward beauty of fancy hairstyles, expensive
jewelry, or beautiful clothes. You should clothe yourselves instead with the beauty
that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is
so precious to God.
Ephesians 2:10 (NLT)
For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can
do the good things he planned for us long ago.
8
10. Accountability
Accountability is the willingness to be able to accept responsibility for one’s own
actions. Here at Anchored Ministry we understand that everyone makes mistakes.
We want young women to know that God still loves them, even though certain
things may have happened in there past. We want to give them an opportunity to
have a mentor, someone who can build them up and support them.
Galatians 6:1-5 (NLT)
Dear brothers and sisters, if another believer is overcome by some sin, you who are
godly should gently and humbly help that person back onto the right path. And be
careful not to fall into the same temptation yourself. Share each other’s burdens,
and in this way obey the law of Christ. If you think you are too important to help
someone, you are only fooling yourself. You are not that important. Pay careful
attention to your own work, for then you will get the satisfaction of a job well
done, and you won’t need to compare yourself to anyone else. For we are each
responsible for our own conduct.
James 5:16 (NLT)
Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed.
The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful
results.
1 Thessalonians 5:11 (NLT)
So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing.
9
11. Spiritual Gifts
Spirituals gifts are gifts given by God that christians use in a way to serve one
another. Here at Anchored Ministry we want to give these young women an
opportunity to know what their spiritual gifts are so they can be a special part of
Christ’s body.
Romans 12:2-8 (NLT)
Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into
a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s
will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. Because of the privilege and
authority God has given me, I give each of you this warning: Don’t think you are
better than you really are. Be honest in your evaluation of yourselves, measuring
yourselves by the faith God has given us. Just as our bodies have many parts and
each part has a special function, so it is with Christ’s body. We are many parts of
one body, and we all belong to each other.
In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. So if
God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out with as much faith as God has
given you. If your gift is serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, teach
well. If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give
generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility
seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly.
1 Peter 4:10 (NLT)
God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them
well to serve one another.
10
12. Discipleship
A Disciple is a follower of Christ who goes out and tells others about Jesus Christ.
Here at Anchored Ministry we will be sharing the gospel to young women who
may never have heard about Jesus before. We want to make connections for them
and show them that they do not have to be perfect in order to be a disciple.
Everyone has a story. We want to equip young women to be able to disciple to
other young women.
2 Timothy 2:2 (NLT)
You have heard me teach things that have been confirmed by many reliable
witnesses. Now teach these truths to other trustworthy people who will be able to
pass them on to others.
Matthew 28:19-20 (NLT)
“Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of
the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all
the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to
the end of the age.”
11
13. Evangelism
Evangelism is spreading the “good news.” Here at Anchored Ministry we want
these young women who go through our program to be able to go out and tell
others about Christ and also to be confidently share their story. Our hope is to
equip these women to connect with others in ways that maybe someone else can
not. Then through that connection maybe that person will come to Christ.
1 Timothy 4:12 (ESV)
Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech,
in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.
1 Peter 3:15 (NLT)
Instead, you must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if someone asks about
your hope as a believer, always be ready to explain it.
1 Corinthians 2:1-2 (NLT)
When I first came to you, dear brothers and sisters, I didn’t use lofty words and
impressive wisdom to tell you God’s secret plan. For I decided that while I was
with you I would forget everything except Jesus Christ, the one who was crucified.
There are many verses in the bible that talk about all these different theological
foundations, but I feel that these best fit our ministry.
12
14. Philosophy
Mission Statement
Our Mission at Anchored Ministry is:
To Equip young women to learn, grow and
minister to others through our mentoring program.
Learn: Our focus is to be consistent when it comes to teaching young women. At
Anchored Ministry we want to give these young women every opportunity we can
to provide them with resources they need to succeed. In Hebrew 6:16-18 it states
“Now when people take an oath, they call on someone greater than themselves to
hold them to it…[t]herefore, we who have fled to him for refuge can have great
confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us.” Our goal is to have these
girls become strong independent women in Christ.
Grow: Our focus is to show these girls that with whatever has happened to them in
their past, that they will grow from it. We want them to be able to learn from those
situations and become stronger. Like it says Hebrew 16:19 “This hope is a strong
and trustworthy anchor for our souls. It leads us through the curtain into God’s
inner sanctuary.” This really shows how important our mission is to these young
women, to help them grow closer in God’s word.
Minister: Our focus is to have these young women that go throughout our program
to be able to minister to others. We want them to not only minister to others but to
be examples to young women. Like it says in Hebrew 16:20 “Jesus has already
gone in there for us. He has become our eternal High Priest in the order of
Melchizedek. Jesus has a mission for us and it is our job to pursue that mission.
13
15. Vision
For my vision I would like to tell you a story.
Hannah, was two years old when her father walked out on her and her mom.
However, he would come and see her from time to time and write to her. But by
the time Hannah was in fourth grade her father stopped calling, writing, and
coming to see her. The summer after fifth grade Hannah’s mother remarried.
Hannah hated her stepdad. She just wanted to be loved by some guy. Hannah lost
her virginity in the sixth grade. She hated her life but when she had sex she felt like
she was cared about and loved. Throughout this time Hannah slept with three
different guys. When she was in seventh grade she started to do drugs and drink.
Her mother finally kicked her stepdad out of the house. However, Hannah still
didn’t feel loved or cared about. Because of these thoughts she felt dead inside and
decided to pick up cutting. When she saw the blood and felt the pain it made her
feel more alive. Her mother found out and Hannah stopped because she went to see
a counselor. But, a few months later she decided to stop eating. Thoughts that were
going through her head were: that she had to be perfect, she was the worst daughter
ever, she had a bad attitude with bad grades, and her dad wasn’t around. She felt
worthless and not good enough for him. Because of all this pain she wanted to die.
She wishes she could find someone who loves her and cares for her. Her question
is: “Where can I find someone like that?”
Now picture this….
Hannah arrives at Anchored Ministry for the first time.
When she arrived, she was welcomed by smiling faces. The first person she
met was Gena. Gena is a college student who was a volunteer at Anchored
Ministry. Gena was one of Hannah’s leaders in her small group. Every week when
Hannah came in Gena was ready to greet her. Within the first couple of months, of
Hannah attending our program and Gena reaching out to her. Gena became a
mentor over Hannah. Gena prayed with her and listened to her. Through this
mentorship Hannah told Gena about her past. Gena became a role model for
Hannah. After being in our program for a year Hannah came to know Christ as her
savior. She grew stronger in her faith and learned that she isn’t perfect. She also
found someone who cared about her and loved her in a way she never could have
imagined.
Now Hannah is a sophomore in high school. She has been volunteering at
Anchored Ministries ever since she was a freshman. She has taken her story and
has become a mentor to many other girls in our program.
14
16. Here at Anchored Ministry we envision that each student who walks through
our doors is inspired like Hannah.
We envision our staff to be supporters throughout each of the girls lives and
who are willing to be leaders and mentors in our program for at least two years at a
time.
We envision our staff to not only support these girls through the program but
to support them outside of the program in other activities. These activities could be
an extracurricular activities that they are in at school or hanging out in the mall.
We envision each young women that goes through this program will turn
around and be mentors to someone else. Whether in our program or outside of it.
We envision that these young women will stay in contact with their mentors
throughout high school and other parts of their life.
15
17. Values
Hope
-We want to let young girls know that they are daughters of a king.
This value ties in with our Kingdom of God theology foundation. We want the girls who come
into our ministry to know that they do have hope, and this hope is just with getting the help they
need to figure things out. But the hope is that they have is through the Kingdom of God and
through their faith they will have eternity.
Jeremiah 29:11 (NLT)
For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for
disaster, to give you a future and a hope.
Divine Nature
-Each one of these girls has unique qualities that God has given them. We want to show them
what those qualities are and how they can use them.
This value ties in with our Spiritual Gifts theology foundation. We want the girls who come into
our ministry to know that each one of them is unique in their own ways. We want to teach these
girls that God has given them each special gifts that show them how they can serve in the Body
of Christ.
1 Peter 4:10 (NLT)
God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them
well to serve one another.
16
18. Individual Worth
-We want each girl to know that they are not worthless. That it does not matter what happened in
their past. God has a plan for each of them & we will help them fulfill that.
This value ties in with our Identity theology foundation. We want the girls who come into our
ministry to know that it doesn’t matter what has happened in there past that God still loves and
that they do have self-worth.
Romans 8:31-39 (ESV)
What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He
who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also
with him graciously give us all things? Who shall bring any charge against God's

died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who
indeed is interceding for us.
Knowledge
-We want to give these girls an opportunity to learn and grow in Christ.
This value ties in with our Gospel and our discipleship theology foundation. We want the girls
who come into our ministry to know and grow in Christ. We want to equip them into being able
to disciple to other young women.
2 Timothy 2:2 (NLT)
You have heard me teach things that have been confirmed by many reliable
witnesses. Now teach these truths to other trustworthy people who will be able to
pass them on to others.
17
19. Choice
-We want to provide mentors for our students to give them a choice to have someone to whom
they can be held accountable. Someone who they can trust and get the support and help they
need.
This value ties in with our accountability theology foundation. We want the girls who come into
our ministry to be able to have an accountability partner. We want to provide them with that
opportunity by having a mentor for them to talk to. This mentor will be there small group leader,
but this person will be trained and willing to be there for that student.
Good Works
-We want to show the girls through actions of what they can do to serve their heavenly father.
This value ties in with our Evangelism theology foundation. We want the girls who come into
our ministry to be able to go out and tell others not only about Christ but be confident enough to
share their story with people and connect with them in ways that maybe someone else can not.
1 Timothy 4:12 (ESV)
Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech,
in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.
18
20. Integrity
-We want these girls to come out strong enough to be able to share what has happened in there
lives with other young women.
This value ties in with our Image of God and our Identity theology foundation. We want the girls
who come into our ministry to be honest with us. We do not want them to hold anything back.
Anchored Ministry is a safe place. We want these girls to share there stories.
19
21. Strategies & Practice
The strategy and practices of Anchored Ministry answers the question “how?”
Strategy is crucial to understand the emphasis and focus put on the practices that
Anchored Ministry will create. Practices are the programming that causes our
philosophy to be achieved through the grounding of our theology.
Strategies
There are four main “C”s for our strategy as a ministry. These strategic points have
the values listed under the points of which they fall.
Community
We strive to form a safe and secure environment for young women to from
Christ-centered relationships.
Compassion
We strive to form a loving, sympathetic and caring relationship through our mentor
& mentee program.
Commitment
We want young women to want to be here. We want them to commit to our two
year program where they will learn, grow and reach out to peers around them.
Commission
We strive to teach, grow and reach to young women through the Great
Commission so they can be disciples and mentors to others. Our goal is to have
each girl mentor to at least one other girl before leaving the program.
20
22. Practices
In Anchored Ministry we want to show Community, Compassion,
Commitment and Commission with in our ministry. We will be doing that
through different programs within this ministry.
Anchored in Truth-Weekly: Bible study that is in place of their
normal sunday school (Community, compassion, and commission)
Our main focus in this program is to show young women the truth. The main
tool we will be using is the bible. We will show the girls that no matter what
they are going through: lust, anger, pride that it is in the bible.
This program gives young women an opportunity to come and learn a variety
of different topics that they may be facing or will be facing in their future. As
weeks progress the girls will be going deeper within the topics with their
small group leader. Our goal is to teach and nurture them to be equip young
women in Christ.
Anchored in Love -Weekly: Meetings with Mentor (community, compassion,
commitment and commission)
Our main focus in this program is to remind student that they are not alone.
We want to show them that they are loved and that they are not judged by
what they have done in their past. We want students to be able to talk to
older women about their problems and struggles that they are going through.
This program gives young women a choice to walk side by side with a mentor
for accountability. If the student chooses this, the small group leader will
also be their mentor because they have already established a relationship
with the student. The mentor and the student sign a covenant together
stating when they will meet and everything is confidential unless it is
harmful to the student.
21
23. Anchored in Hope-Monthly: Scheduled Event (community, compassion,
commitment, and commission)
Our main focus in this program is to show young girls that there is hope. That they
can make a difference and minister to others. This is a program that is designed so
that once a month we will have events to show women that they are not alone. That
whatever they have done in there past that there is still hope. These events include
women speakers, testimonies from mentors and fun activities.
Anchored in Grace - Biweekly: Training for our Volunteers
(Community, compassion, commitment, commission)
Our main focus in this program is to teach our staff on how to be a proper
mentor to the young women coming into our program. The main idea is to
show these young women that they are saved by God’s grace. We want our
mentors to be role models for our students. We want them to show grace and
support them through their journey.
This program is designed to have training every two weeks for all our staff.
We will be going through different books throughout our different training
sections. These books will provide our staff with the proper knowledge and
understanding on how they can be a good mentor to our students. We will
also be focusing on how our mentors are doing as a whole and if they need
help with different situations that they are facing with their mentees.
Anchored in Respect - Monthly: Parents Meeting (Community, compassion,
commitment, commission)
Our main focus in this program is to meet with parents once a month. This gives
our staff an opportunity to get to know the parents of our girls who are in the
program and for the parents to get to know our staff. This also gives the parents an
opportunity to ask questions and it also gives us as a ministry to share the gospel to
them.
22
