Wondering why you should hire an, experienced resume professional as part of your career transition process? Here are some facts and figures about resumes and the job application process: A recruiter often spends no more than 30 seconds taking a cursory first glance at a resume. As a result, the resume must be concise, accurate, and relevant. It is a reflection of how effective your communication skills are. During economic downturns, competition for jobs increases. "Free" resume templates and "home-made" documents do NOT help you stand out among the competition. A job transition can last for months!! Can you afford that amount of time? It has been proven a professional resume can decrease the time spent in job transition by helping you stand out compared to the other candidates applying for the same position. Without a strong and concise cover letter, some recruiters will not bother reviewing the actual resume. A recruiter often reviews a resume using specific screening parameters (i.e. key words extracted from the job description). Some companies use Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to "scan" an electronic resume, searching for the inclusion of predefined "key words". Without those "key words" in the resume, your document will be rejected thereby ending the job application process. A resume serves two purposes: for the Candidate, it is a Marketing Tool; for the Employer, it is a Screening Tool. A professionally crafted resume can address these facts by being rich with key words pertinent to the position/field you are applying for, capture the reader's attention, stir desire, and generate action -- an interview! If you are currently seeking a new job, having a professionally written resume will help you stand out from the competition and be noticed by Hiring Managers. A correctly written and presented resume is essential in your quest for success. Don't risk missing out on your dream job. Trust the experts to assist you in creating a powerful first impression that will get you noticed by hiring managers. We build and write powerful resumes, crafted according to the individual characteristics of our clients!
  6. 6. Cover Letters Our Services Mistry Résumé | Mistry Consulting Services Inc. Why Cover Letters Are Important for Jobseekers ! What is a cover letter? Why are cover letters important for jobseekers? A cover letter is a letter of introduction that highlights your key accomplishments and fit for a job opening. Cover letters are are important because they give you the opportunity to add details about information mentioned on your resume. They also also allow recruiters to differentiate between two candidates with similar qualifications. Writing a terrific cover letter can set set you apart so you should definitely include one. Each cover letter should be tailored to the individual job ad. You don’t have to start from scratch every time, but you should should adjust the content to best reflect what makes you an ideal candidate for the position at hand. You might think your resume gives employers all the info they need about you. In reality, a resume is of limited value to an employer without a cover letter for context. Cover letters are important because they tell employers the type of position you’re seeking — and exactly how you’re qualified for it. Your cover letter can also explain things that your resume can’t. If you have large gaps in your employment history, are reentering the job market, or are changing careers, a cover letter can explain these circumstances in a positive way. Unfortunately, your cover letter can also be a detriment if it’s low quality or contains careless errors.
  7. 7. LinkedIn Profile Writing Our Services Mistry Résumé | Mistry Consulting Services Inc. Why you need a LinkedIn Profile: Fact: 94% of recruiters use LinkedIn while only 36% of job seekers do! 8. 8. Facebook Page Creation Our Services Mistry Résumé | Mistry Consulting Services Inc. Create a Facebook Page that gets "Likes" and gets you hired! In October 2012, Facebook surpassed a big milestone when it recorded over 1 billion active monthly users. With 2.7 billion "likes" recorded on Facebook each day in 2012 (according to statistics released by Royal Pingdom), Facebook Facebook has become an essential place for businesses, brands, celebrities, musicians, public figures, non-profit organizations, schools, and more to interact with consumers and the wider audience of online users. Social networks can be a great asset to anyone that is looking for a job or knows that they might be looking for a job in the future (and let’s face it – that is most of us!). The fact of the matter is that the number of people that will be looking for a job in the next five years is increasing. So, even if you have a job today, you need to be aware that next week, next month, or next year, you might not and you need need to prepare yourself for it now. One of the ways you can do this is by creating a professional Facebook page to brand yourself as a professional in your field and make people aware of your skills. This is not the same as your personal profile where you show off pictures from your latest trip or share funny pictures with your friends. This is purely focused on your professional image. Why should you have a professional Facebook page? One very good reason to have a Facebook page for professional branding is because Facebook pages are indexed by search engines and they tend to show up very well. Your Facebook page is like an ongoing resume. You can share information about your skills. Share concrete examples. And the the best part is that your Facebook page encourages interaction so people can ask you questions or share testimonials. It’s the ultimate interactive resume!
  9. 9. Web Résumé Creation Our Services Mistry Résumé | Mistry Consulting Services Inc. Brand New Strategy For Supercharging Your Thank You Letter! In 2017, we’ve noticed a very interesting trend. Thank you letters have started to lose their effectiveness, and, it’s pretty easy to see why. They’re boring! Imagine you were a hiring manager for a second. You interview ten different applicants for a position, and nearly all of them them send you a thank you email with nearly the exact same messaging. “Thanks for your time… I’m qualified for this position because… I want to work for you because…”, and so on, and so on, and so on… SNOOZE! It almost makes you feel bad for the hiring managers, doesn’t it? (Okay not really haha.) The point is, if you are going to be the only person out of all of the applicants to get the job offer, you really need to stand out from your competitors, and, this this is important from the time you submit your application all the way through the sending of your thank you letter. What can you do to stand out in your thank you email? Drum roll, please… You need to add a link to your personal branding website – your web resume! Gasp! I don’t have a website, and I’m not sure I even need one… Now before you pass judgement on the idea, there is a ton of evidence to suggest that hiring managers value a personal website more than any other part of your job search portfolio, including your cover letter, resume and LinkedIn page. I promise you that it’s nowhere near as terrible as it sounds, and if we’re being honest, it could be the difference between you you getting the job offer or going back to the drawing board… again. So How Does It Work? Adding a link to your personal website on your thank you letter essentially allows you to “e-x-t-e-n-d the interview“. What does this mean? It basically means it allows the hiring manager to continue to engage with you (and your “brand”) long after the interview is is over, making you exponentially more memorable and impressive than someone who doesn’t have a personal website. In other words, it acts as a small reminder to the hiring manager that if there are any remaining curiosities or unanswered questions left over after the interview, simply clicking the link will allow them to get everything they need from your website. website. So where exactly does one put the link? After you have thanked the interviewer for their time and briefly summarized your qualifications (and a subtle reminder of the value you will be adding to the organization), you can close with something like this: “If you have any more questions about my experience or accomplishments, please feel free to take a look at my website:” It’s really just as simple as that!
  10. 10. Web Résumé Creation Our Services Mistry Résumé | Mistry Consulting Services Inc. Is it necessary? If you’re a media, digital, or creative professional—absolutely! Same goes if you want to otherwise establish yourself as an expert in anything and don’t already have your own professional blog. If you’re in a traditionally non-creative field with structured recruitment and hiring methods, such as accounting or law, a personal website might not help you as much professionally. But if you have a side hustle or hobby and you’re active in the online community, then a personal site can be helpful to grow that online influence, too. Here are three reasons why: 1. You Control Your Branding Most personal website services allow you to customize everything from background photos to fonts and text placement—so, so, unlike LinkedIn’s uniform profile, your personality and brand can shine through. When someone finds you, they’ll have an an instant, visual representation of who you are. 2. It’s an Instant Portfolio People are visual, so the more you can show (rather than tell), the better. Your resume may say that you “built a company blog following of 15,000 engaged readers,” but with your personal site, you can take someone straight to the blog and show show why it’s so engaging and what sets your work apart. By featuring work samples, sites you’ve worked on, articles you’ve you’ve written, whatever, your personal homepage can act as a digital portfolio of your online work and identity. 3. You Point Recruiters in the Right Direction Though only 40% of companies use social media as part of their screening process, many more use it informally (and in my experience, hiring managers and interviewers who may not be on the HR side usually do their own research, too). So consider this: If a recruiter sees your resume and tries to find you on LinkedIn or Facebook, you could get lost among the other professionals who share your name. But if you have a personal website aggregating your various networks (and put that URL on your resume), you take all the guesswork out of finding you.

  12. 12. Other Correspondence Our Services Mistry Résumé | Mistry Consulting Services Inc. Along with resumes and cover letters, there are a few other documents you will need to know how to compose: inquiry letters, thank you notes, and decision letters. Inquiry letters are usually written as you work to expand your network, perhaps to ask an Arts & Sciences alumnus/a for an informational interview, for example. The letter should be shorter than a cover letter, but offer similar information. You should talk about how you found the alum and why you’re interested in talking with them, tell them about yourself and your your career-related activities and attach your resume. Your request should also talk about what you would like to accomplish accomplish by talking to them. Industry knowledge? Daily life in their position? A tour of their workplace? Finally, you should should request a meeting and be specific about your availability. Another type of inquiry letter is written when you want to ask for an internship or a position when none has been advertised. This letter is similar, but includes more about your qualifications and your interest in the company or organization. Thank-you notes are written after an interview, a networking meeting, or another occasion. They should be about one paragraph. Thank the person for their time and include something that was said during the interview. If the note comes after after a job interview, you should reiterate why you are qualified for the job and would like to work there. Thank-you letters show that you are courteous and paid attention during the interview. They should be sent to anyone you talked to for a significant amount of time and should be sent within 48 hours of the interview. They do not have to be physical, hand- written notes (especially since hiring decisions could happen quickly), so emailing is fine. Decision letters inform an employer of your acceptance or declination after they have extended you an offer. Both should be short and include a thanks, with the acceptance letter reiterating points made in the offer letter, and the declination letter stating you have already taken another position or are seeking opportunities elsewhere. Be very polite. This is either your first official correspondence as a member of the organization or an opportunity to avoid burning bridges with a contact who who could help you later on.
