How to Deal with Oily Skin and Help it Age Gracefully
The best thing about oily skin is that it can delay aging a little bit longer compared to other skin types,
but then it comes with its own issues like pimples and acne at the same time.

Oily Skin Myth Debunked
Oily Skin Myth: Oily skin can be controlled by stripping with drying ingredients.
Oily Skin Fact: Stripping provides only a temporary solution. Why? Because your skin will try
to make up for it by replacing what's lost, and in doing so, it might produce too much oil and all
the problems that come with it. Hence, the vicious cycle continues each time you try stripping
with drying ingredients.
Oily Skin Myth: There's nothing I can do to help control my oily skin
Oily Skin Fact: Although it may look tough, don't give up! An oily skin condition can be very
manageable if properly treated. With proper guidance you can turn oily skin back to healthy
looking manageable skin.
Trying to Control Oily Skin
Oily skin is an avid irritant, but it’s here to stay; somewhat like a much despised and painful inlaw. It thus becomes imperative that someone who has oily skin realizes that there is nothing to
‘treat’ the condition, for it is after all just a condition, not an ailment. The key with oily skin is
learning how to work with it; dry skin too comes with its own quirks, so there is really no reason
for anyone to complain about their skin type.
If you’re a person who has oily skin, chances are that you’d have gotten accustomed to it by your
teens or your 20s, then why does it seem to become a nuisance with age? Part of the reason is
that most beauty products are made for dry skin; thus, every time you use them, they are adding
excessive oils that the skin does not require. Another reason is that hormonal changes in the body
occur as you age, and one major drawback of them is in the skin department. If you’re a person
with oily skin, be wary that the glands are going to secrete more of the slimy stuff.

So What Are the Remedies? How to deal with oily skin?
For one, oils are good for the skin; they keep it fresh and young (part of the reason why people
with oily skin tend to age slower than people with dry skin), so ensure that you take out only the
excess amounts of it. Wash your face often, but not with rough soaps that completely dry the
skin. Furthermore, be sure to apply little moisturizer from time to time; it is important to keep
some moisture content on the skin, since if this is not done, the body will automatically secrete
oils to make up for it. Better still, use water based face-washes and gels to clean your face.
Anti aging for oily skin must necessarily involve exfoliation and cell turnovers. This is essential
since an exfoliation cleans away dead skin cells and allows the pores to breathe easier, besides
also allowing for better absorption of moisturizers; this translates to lesser oil being released by
the body, and consequently gives you more supple skin.
On the other hand, cell turnovers ensure that cells in the upper part of follicles are cleaned and
rendered less sticky. This is crucial since a clean cell can drain out oil far better than one which
is coated with layers of oil and dust. Furthermore, cell turnovers also help in fading out excess
pigmentation on the skin, which reduces the skin’s susceptibility to unwanted spots. The same is
often the reason why cell turnovers are often prescribed as an important part of anti aging skin
care.
Incidentally, though the medico-scientific terms make it sound tough, it is not very difficult to
ensure that the skin is replenished with fresh cells from time to time. Making a good face pack
and applying it twice a week is a good way to ensure anti aging for oily skin. The best face packs
for this purpose are ones that contain retinol or tretinoin, which not only help in bring fresh cells
to the front, but consequently also prevent acne and blackheads.
Face packs can be made at home or you could rely on over the counter ones, just try to ensure
that they aren’t loaded with chemicals that will prove detrimental for your skin instead of being
beneficial. The more natural a substance, the better it proves for you in the long run.
If you’re up for it, using a clay mask is another option, since clay is known to be a great absorber
of oil. What’s more, the minerals in clay also safeguard against skin irritants, while the sulfur
kills harmful bacteria that may prove harmful for your skin health. However, be sure that you
don’t have an allergy to clay or any specific substances in clay before you undertake this
exercise.
So, remember to use mild soaps and water based gels for cleaning the face. Use a moisturizer
too, keep in mind that the key is to limit the oil on the face, not wipe it off and obliterate it
completely. Use a face pack twice in a week to make sure that the skin cells are fresh and can
absorb oils secreted by the glands well. These steps can go a long way in making you look
radiant without you compromising on your skin health.
