Using Technology in the Classroom

Why use technology in education?<br />Students learn required information, while also learning new technology <br />Helps you cater to all of your different types of learners<br />Keeps students engaged in their learning<br />Concrete way of learning<br />Keeps teachers and students up to date on the latest technology being used<br />Fun and interesting way for teachers to enhance their lessons<br />
  3. 3. There are so many great Ways to use technology in your classroom!<br />
  4. 4. BLOG!!<br />As a teacher, you need to have open communication with your students parents. That is why using a blog is such a useful idea. Blogs are free to sign up for and you can customize them any way you like. <br />A few things you could include on your blog:<br />Student of the week<br />Up coming events in the classroom<br />Things happening school wide<br />Reminders<br />Up to date information<br />

More Parent Contact<br />Besides a blog, you can also use technology to help you stay in contact with your student’s parents in other ways. <br />Examples:<br />Newsletters made in Microsoft Word using a template<br />Emails between you and parents<br />A teacher website<br />Fliers made in Microsoft word about upcoming events<br />Notes home about fieldtrips, days off from school, or things needed for the classroom<br />

Projects<br />The internet is a great resource for projects in your classroom. <br />Once they have found information, they can write a report in a word document or even make a powerpoint presentation<br />Tips:<br />Make sure to go over internet safety with your students<br />Give them direction on where to find reliable information<br />Put students in groups so they are able to assist each other with the technology<br />Model for the students how to do good research<br />

Teach Technology Through Class Instruction<br />When using technology to improve your lessons, you can teach technology at the same time you teach another subject. <br />When a student is able to see you demonstrate trouble-shooting, they are picking up how to use the technology while also learning the topic being taught. <br />For Example:<br />Keyboard shortcuts<br />Using help<br />Linking<br />Cyber-safety<br />
  8. 8. Smart board/ Enoboard<br />You can use these to incorporate technology into hands on learning. <br />You can project educational games or trivia and have one student come up to answer the question.<br />

Use PowerPoint as a Reviewing Tool<br />You can go online and find templates to make a jeopardy game using Microsoft PowerPoint<br />Simply go online to http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/templates/jeopardy-game-TC030004943.aspx<br />Fill in your information for the topic you have taught<br />Review for a test in a fun and exciting way!<br />
  10. 10. Endless Possibilities!<br /> These were just a couple of ideas to get you started with technology. With a little time and effort you can find even more great ways to incorporate technology into your classroom. As an educator don’t forget…use technology to enhance your lessons, not teach them for you!<br />
