PRIOR TO THIS ASSIGNMENT…. <ul><li>We did not know a lot about virtual school </li></ul><ul><li>We thought it was either traditional school OR virtual school </li></ul><ul><li>We thought virtual school was primarily for those who struggled in traditional school settings. </li></ul><ul><li>We thought that virtual school was less effective as traditional school. </li></ul>
  3. 3. NOW… <ul><li>We learned that many schools are integrating traditional schooling and virtual schooling. </li></ul><ul><ul><li>This can be an effective method to help ALL learners achieve </li></ul></ul>
  4. 4. NOW… <ul><li>We learned that virtual school can be an excellent resource for the Gifted student. </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Virtual school allows the student to work at their own pace so the student is not restricted by their peers level. </li></ul></ul>

NOW… <ul><li>We learned that virtual school can actually be MORE effective for some students. </li></ul><ul><ul><li>If the student is struggling to keep with the pace of the class virtual school can be a great alternative. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Also, if the student is way ahead of the class virtual school can really benefit the student. </li></ul></ul>

  7. 7. PROS OF VIRTUAL SCHOOLING FOR STUDENTS <ul><li>Flexibility </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Virtual schools allow for students to work on their own pace. </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Virtual school teaches students to be independent learners and self-motivators. </li></ul>

CONS OF VIRTUAL SCHOOLING FOR STUDENTS <ul><li>Cheating </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Students have the ability to get information from anywhere as there is no one watching over. </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Isolation </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Virtual schools prevent the peer interactions that are found in traditional or mortar schools thus delaying the development of social skills needed in life. </li></ul></ul>
  9. 9. VIRTUAL SCHOOLING FOR TEACHERS <ul><li>Motivation </li></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Motivating students without any face-to-face interaction can be very difficult </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><li>Limits creativity </li></ul>
  10. 10. VIRTUAL SCHOOLING FOR DISTRICTS <ul><li>Cost (pro) </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Very cheap compared to traditional schools because there is no cost of teachers, equipment, etc. </li></ul></ul>
