2022
Since our last Salary Guide was published in February 2021, the major economic indicators
have overall been in the ascendancy. The UK economy grew by 7.5%, inflation is at a 30 year
high, fuelled by raising energy costs and salaries across the board are on the rise.
Since the start of 2022 the jobs market has continued its steep climb. Competition to retain or
recruit exceptional staff is fierce, companies are not only having to raise pay rates but offer
additional enhancements such as flexible working to new starters in order to attract the best
people and hold on to existing staff.
Recruiting the right staff has always been a major challenge for businesses but never more so
than today. The ball is firmly in the court of the candidates, who are now expecting an efficient
and faster recruitment process. Often with several vacancies concurrently at a progressed state,
a high number can be more selective when it comes to accepting an offer on the table. Over the
past 12 months we have witnessed the rise of the counteroffer in an attempt to hang on to
valued and essential members of the Finance team.
The workplace landscape in most areas has changed dramatically over the last 2 years. For
those of us that have successfully worked from home during the pandemic the offer of “hybrid
working” is on the rise and one of the major benefits employees are looking for.
Predicting the future in an uncertain world is the work of crystal ball economists. The indicators
point to a job market with rising salaries amidst the shortage of available staff. We need to bear
in mind that, the levelling off from the economic bounce back, the reduction of COVID travel
restrictions and increasing free trade deals with non-EU countries may provide a healthier
pipeline of suitably qualified and able candidates.
Our Salary Guide data has been formulated using our in-depth knowledge of a dynamic
marketplace, our highly experienced consultants, third-party research and a salary and benefits
survey that we conducted with some of our leading clients and candidates over the last month.
The guide itself is broken down into job levels, location and size of business. Additionally, we
have provided results immediately below from the benefits that candidates most desire and the
benefits that employers currently provide.

The UK economy grew by 7.5%, inflation is at a 30 year high, fuelled by raising energy costs and salaries across the board are on the rise. Since the start of 2022 the jobs market has continued its steep climb. Competition to retain or recruit exceptional staff is fierce, companies are not only having to raise pay rates but offer additional enhancements such as flexible working to new starters in order to attract the best people and hold on to existing staff. Recruiting the right staff has always been a major challenge for businesses but never more so than today. The ball is firmly in the court of the candidates, who are now expecting an efficient and faster recruitment process. Often with several vacancies concurrently at a progressed state, a high number can be more selective when it comes to accepting an offer on the table. Over the past 12 months we have witnessed the rise of the counteroffer in an attempt to hang on to valued and essential members of the Finance team.
