Logging In… When you first turn on your computer you are greeted with the network login screen. <ul><li>Section 2: </li></ul><ul><li>Accessing Services </li></ul><ul><li>Network Login </li></ul><ul><li>Login Prompt - - </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Name </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Enter the user id provided by the Help Desk. Do not attempt to enter a user name of your choice. </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Password </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Enter “password” as your password for the initial logon screen. You will be prompted later to change the default password to your personal password.   5. 5. <ul><li>File Storage </li></ul><ul><li>For storage of electronic data, you are given both personal and shared data storage space. It is recommended that your files be stored on Home and Group Drives. Data saved to these drives is backed-up nightly on a scheduled basis. NCI prohibits the storage of application software and illicit materials for all storage areas. </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Personal </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Home drive (H:) provides a personal data storage space on the network that can only be accessed by the user. </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Group </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Group drive (L:) provides a shared storage space that can only be accessed by authorized users. </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Large Storage </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>For users with large data storage needs (e.g., gels, images), arrangements can be made for higher capacity network space. </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Remote Home & Group Drive Access </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Need to access your files on the H: or L: drive while away from NIH.   6. 6. <ul><li>E-Mail Services </li></ul><ul><li>E-mail services offered by NCI: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Exchange </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Microsoft Exchange is the standard e-mail system which includes the Outlook client. Outlook supports e-mail, calendaring, (individual or shared), contacts, task management, etc. </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Outlook Web Access </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Your e-mail can also be accessed via the web. Contact the Help Desk to setup access. Following setup, connect to the NIH Central E-mail Service for the Outlook Web Access http://owa.nih.gov </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>POP </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>For users who prefer alternative e-mail system, the NCI offers POP mail using the Eudora e-mail client. </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>POP Web Access </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Your POP mail account can also be accessed via the internet browser Netscape and Internet Explorer. Applications are the software tools used to do your job. Applications Access NCI offers a variety of software for the administrative and scientific community. Click on the Windows Start menu to access the list of core services applications. Prompted anti-virus upgrades are implemented on a monthly basis.   13. 13. <ul><li>Section 7: </li></ul><ul><li>Help? </li></ul><ul><li>Operation </li></ul><ul><li>NIH Help Desk – Your connection to Computer Services </li></ul><ul><li>The Help Desk is your main point of contact for all Computer Services and they provides installation services of network, computer hardware and software and troubleshooting. </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Request for Service </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Contact the Help Desk at 496-4357 or e-mail to [email_address] for assistance. </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Service </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Your call will be answered by a Customer Service Representative (CSR). If the CSR is unable to assist you, a technician will be dispatched to diagnose and resolve the service request. Whenever service calls cannot be resolved in a timely fashion, a loaner PC is provided during the service period. </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Response time </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>The response time for urgent service calls is 2 hours, new installations and all non-urgent service calls is 16 hours. </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Quality Assurance </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Within a few days of completion of the service call, you will be contacted to verify the completeness of the service request. </li></ul></ul></ul>
