  19. 19. 11 and said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into Heaven? This Jesus, Who was taken up from you into Heaven, will come in the same way as you saw Him go into Heaven.” Acts 1:1-11 ESV

  22. 22. http://breadoflife.podbean.com/mf/web/qxhsit/ThePromise-HolySpirit.png However, in these, His last words to them before His ascension, the Lord Jesus Christ reiterates (John 20:22) the promise of the Spirit.
  23. 23. John 20:22 ESV 22 And when He had said this, He breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.”
  24. 24. http://strollingthrougharosegardencalledlife.files.wordpress.com/2012/10/holy-spirit.jpg The Holy Spirit would empower the apostles (and all subsequent believers) with those resources necessary to do the Savior's work.
  25. 25. 2 Peter 1:3 NIV 3 His divine power (the Holy Spirit) has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of HimWho called us by His own glory and goodness.
  26. 26. http://www.tanglewoodcofc.org/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/3apostles_01.jpg The fearful apostles needed (and so do we) the correct message, manifestation, might, mystery, mission, and motive.
  27. 27. We need the correct – 1) Message Acts 1:1-2 2) Manifestation 3) Might 4) Mystery 5) Mission 6) Motive
  28. 28. The Message Acts 1:1-2 1The first account I composed,Theophilus, about all that Jesus began to do and teach, 2 until the day when He was taken up, after He had by the Holy Spirit given orders to the apostles whom He had chosen.
  29. 29. http://www.godisreal.info/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/jesus-christ-heals-the-sick.jpg Along with the other Gospels, the first account composed by Luke forTheophilus (the Gospel of Luke), recorded all that Jesus had begun to do and teach while on Earth.
  30. 30. Starting with the book of Acts, the rest of the NewTestament describes the continuation of His work by the early church after His ascension. We are still continuing His work until He comes back.
  31. 31. It is vitally important that those who would carry the message of Christ to the world must know what that message is. Such knowledge is foundational to spiritual power and to fulfillingChrist’ mission through the church.
  32. 32. The lack of the correct message is insurmountable and devastating to the evangelistic purpose of God. The apostle Paul was so concerned about this that it was central to his desire for all believers and he wrote:
  33. 33. "I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe." Eph 1:18-19a
  34. 34. In Hebrews 5:12 the writer rebuked some of his readers' ignorance of the truth: "For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you have need again for someone to teach you the elementary principles of the oracles of God, and you have come to need milk and not solid food".
  35. 35. Mere factual knowledge, of course, was powerless to save those Hebrews, or anyone else, unless it was believed and appropriated.
  36. 36. Jesus set the pattern of consistency in behaving and proclaiming because, as Luke observed, He began both to do as well as to teach. He perfectly lived the truth He taught, He walked the talk, He lived the lip!
  37. 37. Paul told believers to "adorn the doctrine" they had been taught by how they lived their lives. He wrote, "Show yourself to be an example of good deeds, sound in speech showing all good faith that you may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior." Titus 2:7ff
  38. 38. The message of evangelism is telling people that God saves from sin. What adorns that message, or makes it believable, is a holy life that clearly demonstrates God can save from sin.
  39. 39. It is self-defeating to proclaim the message of salvation from sin while still living a sinful life. The messenger must manifest the power of the message he is proclaiming.
  40. 40. Two major factors contribute to the church's powerlessness today. First, many are ignorant of Biblical truth. Second, those who may know Biblical truth all too often fail to live by it.
  41. 41. http://media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/88/30/c3/8830c3494a35d7ba3102fa4e906d74f7.jpg The Holy Spirit is the source of power for believers' ministry and enables us to obey our Lord's teaching.
  42. 42. Acts 1:2 ESV 2 until the day when He was taken up, after He had given commands (entello means given orders) through the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom He had chosen.
  43. 43. https://darrellcreswell.files.wordpress.com/2010/11/doctrine.jpg Our Lord was building into them the teaching that is later called "the apostles' doctrine" (Acts 2:42) — the organized body of truth that established the church.
  44. 44. They established the message believers are to proclaim today. The effectiveness of every believer's ministry depends on a clear and deep knowledge of theWord and then how well she/he allows the Holy Spirit to live out that message through them.
  45. 45. We need the correct – 1) Message Acts 1:1-2 2) Manifestation Acts 1:3 3) Might 4) Mystery 5) Mission 6) Motive
  46. 46. The Manifestation Acts 1:3 3To these He also presented Himself alive, after His suffering, by many convincing proofs, appearing to them over a period of forty days, and speaking of the things concerning the kingdom of God.
  47. 47. The apostles needed not only the proper message but also the confidence to proclaim that message even if it cost them their lives. They could hardly have been enthusiastic about proclaiming and facing martyrdom for a dead Christ.
  48. 48. He “offered them many convincing proofs” (John 20:30), such as entering a room where the doors were locked (John 20:19), showing them His crucifixion wounds (Luke 24:39), and eating and drinking with them (Luke 24:41-43).
  49. 49. http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-0mHyCjVJaKU/T5IQX1SqkgI/AAAAAAAAA4c/BGLDMqIf9j8/s1600/Jesus'+hands.jpg “Look at My hands and My feet.” Luke 24:39
  50. 50. Most convincing, though, was His appearing to them over a period of forty days, beginning with the day of His resurrection. The most extensive summary of those appearances is found in 1 Corinthians 15:5-8.
  51. 51. 1 Corinthians 15:5-8 ESV 5 and that He appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. 6Then He appeared to more than five hundred brothers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have fallen asleep.
  52. 52. 7Then He appeared to James, then to all the apostles. 8 Last of all, as to one untimely born, He appeared also to me (Paul). 1 Corinthians 15:5-8 ESV
  53. 53. http://www.answersingenesis.org/assets/images/articles/aid/v7/timeline.gif
  54. 54. The end result of these appearances was that the apostles became absolutely convinced of the reality of their Lord's physical resurrection. That assurance gave them the boldness to preach the Gospel to the very people who crucified Christ.

  56. 56. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-bnjdTgT1Es8/VEewnO2Zg9I/AAAAAAAAJvs/-BzuPGgr0YE/s1600/Transformed%2BSeries.jpg The transformation of the apostles from fearful, cowering skeptics to bold, powerful witnesses is a potent proof of the resurrection.
  57. 57. https://gladlylistening.files.wordpress.com/2011/04/cross-and-tranforming-power.jpg The power of a changed life! I am eternally thankful for my eternal salvation and I am daily thankful for my daily salvation from fear, anxiety, depression, boredom and worry!
  58. 58. Matthew 11:28-30 28 Come to Me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light.”
  59. 59. More convincing proof: Acts 1:3e NASB 3e and speaking of the things concerning the kingdom of God.
  60. 60. That theme (the kingdom of God), a frequent one during the Lord Jesus Christ's earthly ministry (Matthew 4:23; 9:35; 10:7; 13:1; Mark 1:15; Luke 4:43; 9:2; 17:20; John 3:3), offered further proof to the disciples that it was really Him.
  61. 61. The Lord wanted them to know that the crucifixion did not nullify the promised millennial kingdom (Isa 2:2; 11:6-12; Dan 2:44; Zech 14:9). The apostles no doubt had difficulty believing in that kingdom after the death of the King.
  62. 62. The resurrection changed all that, and from that time on they proclaimed Jesus Christ as the King over an invisible, spiritual kingdom (Acts 17:7; Col 1:13; 1Tim 1:17; 6:15; 2Tim 4:1; 2 Peter 1:11; Rev 11:15; 12:10; 17:14; 19:16).
  63. 63. https://realtimeunited.files.wordpress.com/2011/08/millennium.jpg The kingdom will be manifested in its fullness at the Second Coming. At that point our Lord will personally reign on earth for a thousand years.
  64. 64. Yet today, Jesus Christ does not manifest Himself physically and visibly to believers. Jesus said toThomas, "Because you have seen Me, have you believed? Blessed are they who did not see, and yet believed" (John 20:29).
  65. 65. http://wp.production.patheos.com/blogs/tonyjones/files/2013/10/jesusresurrection_2.jpg
  66. 66. http://www.gerhardy.id.au/images/thomas030307_01.jpg “My Lord and my God!”
  67. 67. Peter wrote, "Though you have not seen Him, you love Him, and though you do not see Him now, but believe in Him, you greatly rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory". 1 Peter 1:8
  68. 68. Jesus’ manifestation to us is no less real, however: Colossians 1:26-29 NASB 26 the mystery which has been hidden from the past ages and generations, but has now been manifested to His saints,
  69. 69. https://jesushealsthesick.files.wordpress.com/2015/05/christ-on-u.jpg 27 to whom God willed to make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.
  70. 70. 28We proclaim Him, admonishing every man and teaching every man with all wisdom, so that we may present every man complete in Christ. 29 For this purpose also I labor, striving according to His power, which mightily works within me. Colossians 1:26-29 NASB
  71. 71. We need the correct – 1) Message Acts 1:1-2 2) Manifestation Acts 1:3 3) Might Acts 1:4-5 4) Mystery 5) Mission 6) Motive
  72. 72. THE MIGHT Acts 1:4-5, 8a 4 Gathering them together, He commanded them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for what the Father had promised, "Which," He said, "you heard of from Me;
  73. 73. 5 for John baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now." 8 but you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; Acts 1:4-5, 8a
  74. 74. The apostles, who were no doubt fired up with enthusiasm and eager to begin, had been told to “Go ye therefore and make disciples”. Now Jesus was telling them not to leave Jerusalem but to wait; that must have seemed a strange command.
  75. 75. http://image.slidesharecdn.com/avoidingtheworksoftheflesh-150719212456-lva1-app6891/95/avoiding-the-works-of-the-flesh-1-638.jpg?cb=1437341164 Having received the message, and witnessed the manifestation of the risen Christ, the apostles may have been tempted to assume they were ready to minister in their own strength.
  76. 76. Yet, it illustrates an important point: All the preparation and training that knowledge and experience can bring are useless without the proper might. Power had to accompany truth.
  77. 77. God’s promise, made repeatedly during the Lord's earthly ministry (Luke 11:13; 24:49; John 7:39; 14:16,26; 15:26; 16:7; 20:22), was that the Holy Spirit would be sent to them (Acts 2:33) to give them the power that was so needed.
  78. 78. Acts 2:33b NASB 33 having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He (Jesus) has poured forth this which you both see and hear.
  79. 79. http://beinvolved.files.wordpress.com/2011/06/the-promise.jpg Jesus promised that after He departed, He would send the Spirit (John 16:7).
  80. 80. John 16:7 ESV 7 Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send Him to you.
  81. 81. http://christrescuemission.org/yahoo_site_admin/assets/images/Dove_and_The_Helper_Has_Come.245123654_std.jpg The promise was to be fulfilled, and the disciples would be baptized with the Holy Spirit, not many days from now — ten to be exact.
  82. 82. http://endtimesresearchministry.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/body-of-christ.jpg Baptism of the Holy Spirit takes place for all believers at conversion and at that moment, every believer is placed into the body of Christ (1 Cor 12:13).
  83. 83. 1 Corinthians 12:13 ESV 13 For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and all were made to drink of one Spirit.
  84. 84. The passive voice of the verb translated be baptized indicates the baptism by Jesus Christ with the Spirit is entirely a divine activity. It comes, like salvation itself, through grace, not human effort.
  85. 85. Titus 3:5-6 says, "He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit,Whom He poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior.”
  86. 86. God sovereignly pours out the Holy Spirit on those He saves. Romans 5:5 NIV 5 Hope does not disappoint us because God has poured out His love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit,Whom He has given us. (The Holy Spirit is a gift.)
  87. 87. http://christrescuemission.org/yahoo_site_admin/assets/images/The_Indwelling_Spirit.262210727_std.jpg At that point the Spirit also takes up His permanent residency in the converted person's soul, so there is no such thing as a Christian who does not yet have the Holy Spirit (Rom 8:9; 1 Cor 6:19-20).
  88. 88. The baptism with the Holy Spirit is not a special privilege for some believers, nor are believers challenged and exhorted in Scripture to seek it. It is not even their responsibility to prepare for it by praying, pleading, tarrying, or any other means.
  89. 89. However, since the church began, all believers are commanded to: 1) be filled with the Spirit (Ephesians 5:18) and 2) walk in the Spirit (Galatians 5:25).
  90. 90. Galatians 5:25 ESV 25 If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit (walk in the Spirit).
  91. 91. http://somasrv.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/Acts-podcast.jpg The Spirit's presence, leading, and might (POWER) were absolutely essential if the apostles (and us) were to be effective in continuing the Lord's unfinished work.
  92. 92. Power translates dunamis, from which the English word "dynamite" derives. All believers have in them spiritual dynamite for use of gifts, service, fellowship, and witness.
  93. 93. Believers need to experience the release of that power in their lives through not grieving the Spirit by sin (Ephesians 4:30), not quenching Him by suppressing His fire (1Thessalonians 5:19) and being continually filled and controlled by the Spirit (Ephesians 5:18).
  94. 94. You grieve the Spirit by something that you do (sin, treat someone unkindly, etc. - Ephesians 4:30) but you quench Him by something that you fail to do (not fanning into flames the gift that He put inside of you – 2Timothy 1:6).
  95. 95. https://gnethaway.files.wordpress.com/2015/08/truth.jpg?w=300&h=225 Do not quench the Spirit 1Thessalonians 5:19
  96. 96. Being controlled by the Spirit (Galatians 5:16) takes place as believers voluntarily yield moment by moment control of their lives to Him, and is the same as yielding their minds to theWord (Colossians 3:16) – “Let theWord of Christ dwell in you…”
  97. 97. The result of being filled with the Spirit is expressed by Paul's prayer in Ephesians 3:16, 20 "that He [God] would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man. ... Now to HimWho is able to do exceeding abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us ..."
  98. 98. (For a complete discussion of the filling of the Spirit, see Ephesians, MacArthur NT Commentary [Chicago: Moody, 1986].) .)
  99. 99. We need the correct – 1) Message Acts 1:1-2 2) Manifestation Acts 1:3 3) Might Acts 1:4-5 4) Mystery Acts 1:6-7 5) Mission 6) Motive
  100. 100. The Mystery Acts 1:6-7 6 So when they had come together, they were asking Him, saying, "Lord, is it at this timeYou are restoring the kingdom to Israel?" 7 He said to them, "It is not for you to know times or epochs which the Father has fixed by His own authority;"
  101. 101. https://100versebible.files.wordpress.com/2011/09/secondcoming2050-06232010.jpg?w=700&h=392
  102. 102. The enthusiastic question they were asking Him, "Lord, is it at this timeYou are restoring the kingdom to Israel?" is thus perfectly understandable. After all, here was the resurrected Messiah speaking with them about His kingdom.
  103. 103. They knew of no reason the earthly form of the kingdom could not be set up immediately, since the messianic work signaling the end of the age had arrived.
  104. 104. http://arthuride.files.wordpress.com/2011/08/revelationofjesuschristpic.jpg It must be remembered that the interval between the two comings of Messiah is not explicitly taught in the OldTestament.
  105. 105. Further, the apostles knew that Ezekiel 36 and Joel 2 connected the coming of the kingdom with the outpouring of the Spirit Jesus had just promised.
  106. 106. They had experienced a roller coaster ride of hope and doubt which they now felt might be over. The Scriptures teach many things about the earthly and glorious reign of Jesus Christ in His kingdom, but not the precise time of its establishment.
  107. 107. God has determined all the aspects of the future and the kingdom but as far as men are concerned, that remains one of "the secret things" (mysteries) that "belong to the Lord our God" (Deuteronomy 29:29).
  108. 108. All that believers can know for sure is that the kingdom will be established at the Second Coming (Matthew 25:21-34). The time of the second coming, however, remains unrevealed (Mark 13:32).
  109. 109. Since the season of His coming cannot be known (mystery), and the Lord could return at any moment in the Rapture of the church (1Thessalonians 5:2), believers must be continually ready.
  110. 110. All must remember the Lord's solemn warning in Mark 13:33-37: 33 "Take heed, keep on the alert; for you do not know when the appointed time is. 34 It is like a man, away on a journey, who upon leaving his house and putting his slaves in charge, assigning to each one his task, also commanded the doorkeeper to stay on the alert.
  111. 111. 35Therefore, be on the alert — for you do not know when the master of the house is coming, whether in the evening, at midnight, at cock-crowing, or in the morning — 36 lest he come suddenly and find you asleep. 37 And what I say to you I say to all, 'Be on the alert!'" Mark 13:33-37
  112. 112. Such continual vigilance and anticipation, through all generations of believers who were looking for Jesus to return, has served as true incentive to live with urgency and minister with passion (the mission).
  113. 113. We need the correct – 1) Message Acts 1:1-2 2) Manifestation Acts 1:3 3) Might Acts 1:4-5 4) Mystery Acts 1:6-7 5) Mission Acts 1:8b 6) Motive
  114. 114. http://media1.razorplanet.com/share/510153-3132/siteImages/you%20will%20be%20my%20witnesses.jpg The Mission Acts 1:8b 8 "you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the Earth."
  115. 115. Rather than engage in useless speculation over the time for the coming of the kingdom, the apostles were to focus on the work at hand. Witnesses are those who see something and tell others about it.
  116. 116. John MacArthur once witnessed an attempted murder and when he testified in court, the judge and jury wanted to know three things: what he saw, heard, and felt. That reminds us of 1 John 1:1-3.
  117. 117. 1 John 1:1-3a ESV 1That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we looked upon and have touched with our hands, concerning the word of life—
  118. 118. 2 the life was made manifest, and we have seen it, and testify to it and proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and was made manifest to us— 3 that which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, 1 John 1:1-3a ESV
  119. 119. A witness for Jesus Christ is simply someone who tells the truth about Him. The apostles, as Peter points out, "were eyewitnesses of His majesty" (2 Peter 1:16).
  120. 120. 2 Peter 1:16 ESV 16 For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of His majesty.
  121. 121. This was the foremost purpose for which the empowering of the Holy Spirit came - to empower us to witness. And the early church was so effective that they "upset the world" (Acts 17:6).
  122. 122. Acts 17:6 ESV 6 “And when they could not find them, they dragged Jason and some of the brothers before the city authorities, shouting, “These men who have turned the world upside down have come here also,”
  123. 123. Jesus commands all believers to be His witness in the Great Commission in Matthew 28:19-20: 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
  124. 124. https://asktheblindpastor.files.wordpress.com/2014/09/the-great-commission.jpg 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Matt 28:19-20
  125. 125. So many Christians sealed their witness to Christ with their blood that martures (witnesses) came to mean "martyrs." Their blood, as the second-century theologianTertullian stated, became the seed of the church.
  126. 126. Revelation 12:11 ESV 11 And they have conquered him (the accuser of the brethren - Satan) by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, for they loved not their lives even unto death (martyrs).
  127. 127. Many pagans were drawn to faith in Christ by observing how calmly and joyously Christians met their deaths. There is a sense in which believers do not even choose whether or not to be witnesses.
  128. 128. They are witnesses, and the only question is how effective their witness is. Are you an effective witness? If the church is to reach the lost world with the good news of the Gospel, we believers must live out 1 Peter 3:15.
  129. 129. 1 Peter 3:15a ESV 15 but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy (sanctify Christ as Lord), always being prepared (planning on it) to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you;
  130. 130. Titus 2 indicates that how Christians live their lives lays the platform of integrity and believability on which effective personal witness is built.
  131. 131. In that text, Paul writes that we are to so live "that the word of God may not be dishonored" (Titus2:5), "that the opponent of the Christian faith may be put to shame, having nothing bad to say about us" (Titus 2:8), and "that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in every respect" (Titus 2:10), so that we may make it possible that the saving Gospel comes winsomely to all.
  132. 132. Beginning in Jerusalem, the apostles carried out the Lord's mandate. Their witness spread beyond there to all Judea and Samaria (the neighboring area), and finally even to the remotest part of the earth.
  133. 133. Acts 1:8 provides the general outline for the book of Acts. Following that outline, Luke chronicles the irresistible march of Christianity from Jerusalem, into Samaria and then through the whole Roman world.
  134. 134. As the book unfolds, we will move through those three sections of the expansion of the church. This beginning was to dramatically alter the course of history as the spread of the Gospel message has gone past Acts to reach all the earth.
  135. 135. http://natewilsonfamily.net/natespics/historygraphics/01apostles.jpg
  136. 136. Today, believers continue to have the responsibility for being Christ's witnesses throughout this world. The sphere for witnessing is as extensive as the kingdom — all the world as that was and is the mission for the church until Jesus comes.
  137. 137. We need the correct – 1) Message Acts 1:1-2 2) Manifestation Acts 1:3 3) Might Acts 1:4-5 4) Mystery Acts 1:6-7 5) Mission Acts 1:8b 6) Motive Acts 1:9-11
  138. 138. The Motive Acts 1:9-11 9 And after He had said these things, He was lifted up while they were looking on, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. 10 And as they were gazing intently into the sky while He was departing, behold, two men in white clothing stood beside them;
  139. 139. 11 and they also said, "Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into the sky? This Jesus,Who has been taken up from you into Heaven, will come in just the same way as you have watched Him go into Heaven." Acts 1:9-11
  140. 140. Jesus left the apostles with a final, dramatic moment which provided powerful motivation for carrying on His work.
  141. 141. To their amazement, He was lifted up while they were looking on, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. Jesus, in His glorious resurrection body, left this world for the realm of Heaven to take His place on the throne at God's right hand.
  142. 142. The angels asked the bewildered apostles, "Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into the sky?" They are called men of Galilee since all of the apostles (with the exception of the dead traitor Judas) were from that region.
  143. 143. The angels' question, "why do you stand looking into the sky?" indicates more than curiosity at the miracle. The word translated looking indicates a long gaze, in this case a transfixed look as if losing someone.
  144. 144. http://intellectualoid.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/04-apostles-martyred.jpg The question, then, is a mild rebuke to the apostles because they were not losing Jesus, as they feared.
  145. 145. Maybe some of them remembered the vision of Ezekiel, who saw the glory of God ("Ichabod" which means "the glory has departed) depart to Heaven from Israel (Ezekiel 10:18-19) and feared it was happening again.
  146. 146. The angels went on to say, "This Jesus, Who has been taken up from you into Heaven, will come in just the same way as you have watched Him go into Heaven."
  147. 147. The promise of Zechariah 14:4 will come to pass, namely that the Messiah will return to the Mount of Olives.
  148. 148. Zechariah 14:4 ESV 4 On that day His feet shall stand on the Mount of Olives that lies before Jerusalem on the east, and the Mount of Olives shall be split in two from east to west by a very wide valley, so that one half of the Mount shall move northward, and the other half southward.
  149. 149. Jesus will return in His glorified body, accompanied with clouds (Daniel 7:13; Matthew 24:30; 26:64; Revelation 1:7; 14:14), just as at His ascension.
  150. 150. This becomes a compelling motive. No one knows when He will come, but everyone must live in anticipation that it could be in their lifetime (Romans 13:12-14; 2 Peter 3:14-18). The truth that Christ will return provides a powerful motive to serve.
  151. 151. http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x289/Matureo/Heaven-2-.jpg Paul writes; 2 Corinthians 5:10 ESV 10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil.
  152. 152. In Revelation 22:12 the Lord Jesus Christ said, "Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to render to every man according to what he has done." Believers must serve Christ faithfully in light of His imminent return.
  153. 153. In Revelation 16:15 Jesus warned, "Behold, I am coming like a thief. Blessed is the one who stays awake and keeps his garments, lest he walk about naked and men see his shame" (See 1 John 2:28).
  154. 154. 1 John 2:28 ESV 28 And now, little children, abide in Him, so that when He appears we may have confidence and not shrink from Him in shame at His coming.
  155. 155. The task of finishing the work that Jesus began, the duty of evangelizing the lost world, is a daunting one. It is one of the ways we prepare for His coming – not just sit on the couch and wait for the Rapture.
  156. 156. But the Lord in His mercy from the start has provided all the spiritual resources necessary to accomplish that task – no excuses. (2 Peter 1:3) It is up to each believer to appropriate those resources and put them to use.

Romans 3:23 NKJV 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, Romans 6:23a NKJV 23 For the wages of sin is death, • Death in this life (the first death) is 100%. • Even Jesus, the only one who doesn’t deserve death, died in this life to pay the penalty for our sins. • The death referred to in Romans 6:23a is the second death explained in Revelation 21:8.
  161. 161. Revelation 21:8 NKJV 8 “But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.” Romans 6:23 NKJV 23b but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 10:13 NKJV 13 For “whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved.”
