Sam Tabar: On Sound Investments
Sam Tabar’s journey to becoming one of New York’s highly regarded capital strategist and attorney began after his
graduation with honors from Oxford University where he undertook his undergraduate education. He then worked as
Associate Editor of the Columbia Business Law Review at Columbia Law School. Shortly after Sam joined as an Associate,
Skadden, Arps, Slater, Meagher & Flom LLP. Mr. Tabar worked in investment management and advising clients on how to
form and manage hedge funds. He also served private placement memoranda forms that protected his clients from faulty
investments. Tabar also reviewed the compliance of prospective investments to the laws governing the businesses. In 2004,
Tabar moved to SPARX Group Co. /PMA Investment Advisors where he experienced a meteoric rise to Managing Director
& Co-Head of Business Development. Here Sam worked in managing and advising well over $2 billion in hedge funds and
also assisted in raising $1.2 billion in assets for the firm.
Thumbtack tells htat soon after Tabar moved to the Bank of America Merrill Lynch and took the post of Head of Capital
Strategy for the Asia-Pacific Region. In September 2013 after his extensive involvement in the legal field, Tabar reverted to
the legal profession. He joined Schulte Roth & Zabel LLP and took the post of Senior Associate, where he was back to
managing hedge funds and compliance of entities to the rule of law. Sam then left 2014.
Over the years, Sam has invested in properties and select startups most notably THINX which is a company that
manufactures innovative, sexy and comfortable undergarments for women when they are experiencing their menstrual
cycle. After meeting the founders of the business namely Radha Agrawal, Antonia Dunbar and Miki Agrawal he liked their
business model this then led to his investment into the startup. The product comes in five styles with each adhering to strict
product requirements of having four layers.
Due to his formative training and early exposure to the corporate scene Sam is quite versed in making sound investment and
pooling resources. Yahoo Finance even said that recently he weighed in his views on investments and emphasized in doing
research on a product and its performance over time, this goes a long way in providing one with proper insight, and
